Fayette County township with varied housing styles

Options galore in Redstone Township. This Fayette County community punches above its weight class thanks to its variety of homes, its local businesses and its access to outdoor recreation. “It’s a smaller area, but it does have a wide range of options as far as price goes,” says local Realtor Renee Kadar of Coldwell Banker Laurel Ridge Realty.

From old to new homes in Redstone Township

There are quite a few homes in this area that date back to the early 20th century, but also some that were built within the last several years. There are houses in Redstone Township built across almost every era in between, too. Many of the homes here are some variation of the colonial style, with multi-story floor plans, but there are some single-story Cape Cods and ramblers, too. Lots are often at least about 11,700 square feet but can stretch around a dozen acres in some cases. Some homes here are situated closely together on a grid of suburban-style residential streets. Many more township homes dot hilly and winding country roads that show off more of the area’s landscape, one shaped by its location at the foothills of the Appalachian Mountains. Even in what’s a relatively small area, Kadar says there always seems to be something that’s for sale here. Price tags in Redstone Township can range from about $80,000 to more than $300,000 depending on factors like age, square footage and acreage. Homes here usually sell after about a month on the market.

Outdoor recreation along the Monongahela River

Residents of all ages can enjoy Redstone Township’s location by the Monongahela River, which Kadar notes is open to boating, both motorized and nonmotorized. Anglers can find species such as black bass, channel catfish and sunfish here. The 467-acre Patsy Hillman Park is another recreational draw in the area, an expanse with multiple athletic fields, multiple pavilions, trails for hiking and biking, and a lake stocked with largemouth bass, sunfish and more. Residents can find a different type of outdoor fun at the area’s Brownsville Drive-in, which has been open since 1949. The drive-in shows both first-run and classic movies across three screens from April to October and is still popular. “They do a lot of business there,” says Kadar, who has worked in the real estate business for more than 20 years.

Pizza from Pepperronnies Family Restaurant and travel along Route 40

There are several places to grab a bite to eat around Redstone Township, and many of them are locally owned. One of the area favorites is Pepperronnies Family Restaurant. As the name might suggest, the pizza at Pepperronnies is a hit. But the breakfast here is popular as well. The Sandwich Shop and Deli is another standout and a relatively new one, open since 2020. Part of U.S. Route 40 cuts through the community, an artery that can be used by area commuters for trips toward Pittsburgh, about 40 miles north. It’s another asset of this small community that’s packed with appeal.
