Suburban greenery on the San Francisco Peninsula

Sandwiched between the San Francisco Bay and Northern California's thick redwood forests is Roosevelt — a walkable, suburban neighborhood just south of downtown Redwood City and a short drive from Silicon Valley. With proximity to a host of nearby attractions, good schools and excellent public parks, Roosevelt's allure is clear-cut. "You've got a wide range of people that live around Redwood City because of its affordability in comparison to some of the most expensive areas," says local Realtor Josh Rubin of Compass, who has sold dozens of homes in the Bay Area. "In terms of future potential, you can tell Redwood City really wants to become a major hub on the center of the San Francisco Peninsula."

Well-kept homes with Bay Area price tags

Along Roosevelt's gridded, tree-lined streets are homes featuring a wide range of architectural styles from ranch, bungalow and Craftsman-style dwellings to larger properties with Mediterranean Revival flourishes. Sidewalks and manicured front lawns are a common sight throughout the neighborhood. A single-story home can list between $1 million and $3 million while larger 4,000-square-foot residences often range from $3 million to north of $7 million. The housing market in Roosevelt is very competitive with many homes selling in under two weeks, though some properties can take a bit longer. "Some houses in Redwood City sell immediately, like within the first couple of days if they have the perfect lot dimensions, perfect layout and great location," Rubin says. "For other homes, it can take anywhere from hundreds of days to possibly even zero days."
