Reedsburg, Wisconsin, home to 10,000 Wisconsinites
Reedsburg, Wisconsin, was colonized by Europeans in 1844 for its abundant natural resources like lumber. By the late 1800s, the development of the city’s downtown area attracted breweries, hotels and textile mills were established before the 20th century. In May of 1887, with a population of roughly 1,700 people, Reedsburg was officially incorporated as a city. Today, the city’s 10,000 residents are mostly employed by manufacturers like Grede, Nuk USA and Seats, Inc. “There’s a pretty decent industrial area that provides a lot of employment,” says Ryan Olson, General Contractor and Realtor with Evergreen Custom Builders and Evergreen Realty. “And there’s a lot of people in building trades since we’ve seen a lot of new construction in recent years, and we’re near several lakes where people build second homes.”
Reedsburg's economy was built on agriculture and manufacturing industries.

Median home price below the national median
Older single-family homes with less than 1,000 square feet can start around $75,000, while more modern properties with over 2,000 square feet can surpass $600,000. With homes dating back to the early 1900s, styles range from ornate Victorians to modern, ranch-style craftsman homes. The median home price is around $290,000, just over half the national median. “It’s a relatively strong market, but more affordable than if you start moving toward Madison,” Olson says. “Every step closer to Madison takes you up in price point.”

The Butterfest and other events
From the 1960s through the 1980s, Reedsburg’s local milk processing plant produced more butter than any other region in the world. Since then, Reedsburg has celebrated its status as the “Butter Capital of the World” with the annual Butterfest, a week-long festival featuring arts and crafts, live music and food from local vendors. The Reedsburg Community Fly-In, Drive-In Pancake Breakfast has been a community staple for more than 70 years. The event helps raise funds for local charities and celebrates the history of aviation with live music, plane rides and historical displays. “For a pretty reasonable ticket price, you can fly up and see the city from above,” Olson says. “It’s where I had my first plane ride as a kid.”
