Situated fewer than 4 miles from downtown Reading, Reiffton is a suburban neighborhood that provides residents access to a shopping center, public schools and classic Colonial-style housing. Reiffton is named for a family of farmers that settled in the area in the early 1700s and were relatives of the famous frontiersman Daniel Boone. The area had remained rural for generations until the growth of Reading cut through the neighborhood with trolley lines and highways. The first suburban developments came to Reiffton in the mid-20th century. One of the few landmarks that call back to Reiffton’s history is a small white-columned pavilion that stands in the center of town. Residents used the pavilion to jump aboard trolley cars on their way to Reading. Today, the intersection along the busy four-lane highway marks the entrance corridor to a housing tract that borders the campus of the Reiffton School and Exeter Township Junior and Senior High School.
