Virginia Lake’s housing stock reflects both this neighborhood’s midcentury origins and its continued popularity as a suburban alternative to downtown living. Virginia Lake, created in the 1930s as a New Deal project, is surrounded by homes varying in style and date of construction, with older homes tending to be built from the 1950s to 1970s. Older brick houses, ranch-style residences and Midcentury Modern homes share Virginia Lake’s quiet streets with newer single-family homes, townhouses and condos. Newly built properties usually offer smaller front and back yards of around 3,000 square feet, while plenty of apartments and condos at the southern end of the neighborhood are ideal for those seeking a smaller space. Outdoor adventure in Virginia Lake
Virginia Lake is surrounded by parks and trails, enabling residents to take part in outdoor recreation activities at the heart of their community. A paved trail stretches around the lake, with the shade of trees keeping residents cool as they walk a lap or two down the mile-long loop. This trail also connects Virginia Lake Park Playground, a geometrically shaped park with a grassy lawn, with Virginia Lake Park at the other end of the lake. This small park sits along the shoreline of the lake and includes trees and benches for picnics and birdwatching. The Virginia Lake Dog Park is a few blocks from the lake, allowing residents to let their pups run in the sun. Avid golfers can enjoy the greens and fairways at the nearby Washoe County Golf Course, a public, 18-hole golf course with a pro shop and restaurant.

Virginia Lake is just a short journey away from many of the city’s most popular destinations; it’s only a mile south of Midtown Reno’s restaurants and boutique shops and 3 miles from the Reno Riverwalk. For those who need to catch a flight, the neighborhood is 2 miles west of the Reno-Tahoe International Airport, while those who need to commute by car will find Interstate 580 just a mile away. The Moana West Annex shopping center, located at Virginia Lake’s southern edge is full of local restaurants bringing out diverse flavors. Lakeside Bar & Grill is the perfect spot for no-frills American cuisine, while Josef’s Vienna Bakery & Café offers authentic German and Austrian fare. Grocers, pharmacies and big box stores are close by, including a Sprouts Farmers Market, Walmart, Walgreens and Costco, all of which are accessible within a few miles.
