Quiet yet innovative tech-focused Dallas suburb
With a STEM academy and several tech corporations nearby, Richardson’s quiet Berkner Park neighborhood is a hub for innovation. “Schools and location are the main appeal for residents,” says local Realtor Susan Kassen of Keller Williams. “Berkner Park is a first-ring suburb with easy access to Downtown Dallas and great schools with STEM and technology magnet programs.” Add in the convenient access to parks, shopping and dining, and Berkner Park offers a well-rounded lifestyle in the heart of the Metroplex.

A technology hub and highly rated STEM academics
Students in Berkner Park will likely attend Dartmouth Elementary School, which earns a B-plus grade from Niche. Seventh and eighth graders attend B-minus-rated Liberty Junior High School before advancing to Berkner High School, which serves nearly 2,400 students and maintains a B-plus score. The school offers a STEM academy that prepares students for college and careers in STEM industries. Students can focus on pathways such as aviation and aeronautical science, biotechnology, cybersecurity and engineering. All that STEM training fits right in with the identity Richardson has created for itself with the nearby Richardson Innovation Quarter or The IQ, located just north of Berkner Park. Created in partnership between the City of Richardson and the nearby University of Texas at Dallas, the 1,200-acre business district is home to several large technology companies and around 1,000 local businesses and start-ups with over 20,000 employees. “Berkner Park isn’t far from The Richardson IQ, which is definitely a draw for residents,” Kassen notes. “It’s a very high-tech-oriented area with a lot of jobs.”

Contemporary ranch styles on spacious lots
Spacious front yards and tree-lined sidewalks frame the mostly ranch-style houses within Berkner Park. Rear-entry garages are standard, keeping the front of the house looking neat and symmetrical, and backyard swimming pools are popular throughout the neighborhood. “You’ll mostly see traditional and soft contemporary home styles, with some mid-century modern,” Kassen says. Ranch homes may feature stone or brick facades, timbering details, or narrow modern windows, while the handful of two-story homes showcase classic, colonial-inspired architecture. Clusters of condos and townhouses are also available for homebuyers, starting at $230,000. While a typical four-bedroom home will list around $380,000 to $400,0000, real estate prices reach up to $600,000 here. According to the CAP Index, Berkner Park has a crime rate of 4 out of a possible 10, which is comparable to the U.S. national average.
