Oak Grove has established homes with prices below the Richmond median

Oak Grove sits in Richmond's Southside, less than 2 miles from Manchester and the James River. With roots in the early 20th century, the community has an established feel along its gridded, tree-lined streets. Hull Street and Richmond Highway are close at hand for shopping and dining, while free bus service offers easy access across the city. Residents are roughly 2 miles from Downtown Richmond's major employers, with Interstate 95 just east of the neighborhood. The Oak Grove Neighborhood Association organizes community projects and events, and there are several development plans in the works. Home prices fall well below the city's median, adding further appeal.

Tree-lined streets and attractive price tags

Ranch-style homes, Cape Cods and American Foursquares line the streets of Oak Grove, and most were built between the 1920s and 1950s. Many homes have seen significant interior upgrades, while keeping original features like hardwood floors and brick fireplaces; others are still in need of renovation. Covered front porches and fenced-in backyards are common. There are also some two-story infill homes built in the 2020s throughout the neighborhood, along with brand-new townhouses along Ingram Avenue. Price tags for single-family homes typically start in the low $100,000s and reach the mid-300,000s. Oak Grove has a median sale price of $230,000, which is significantly lower than the Richmond City median of $390,000. “The last house I sold here sold quickly,” says Jennifer Gurley, Realtor with Shaheen Ruth Martin & Fonville. “We got multiple offers, and it sold before the end of the weekend. There are definitely a lot of buyers who want to be in Oak Grove.”
