Quiet digs, easy commute
Richton Park began as a railroad depot surrounded by asparagus farms, and experienced major population growth in the 1970s. Mature trees are testaments to this village's long history, but it’s still expanding and developing. With multiple transportation options, Richton Park has the potential to attract retailers and other businesses that can serve as community hubs. Realtor Wendy Lee with Exit Realty also points out that this community is attractive to commuters, thanks to the presence of Interstate 57, which runs along the west end. "You can get to the Loop quickly from here," she says. Indeed, downtown is about 30 miles north, but the landscape will change pretty drastically. "This is a lowkey suburban community," Lee adds.

Classic styles from the 70s, starting at $135k
Residences are mostly single-owner homes from the 1970s, in classic styles such as ranch and split-level. But it's not impossible to find townhouses. In fact, many of these townhouses have been remodeled to feature facades with mixed materials. Richton Park is laid out as several subdivisions, and some of these are built close to popular public amenities like the 24-acre Glaeser Park. In general, single-owner home prices begin at $135,000 and extend into the upper $200,000s. For example, a renovated three-bedroom ranch featuring an attached garage and typical stark white color palette, will go for $135,000. It's the larger properties, like a renovated four-bedroom split-level, that will command a price like $210,000. Either way, though, homebuyers are sure to see neat, sparsely adorned lawns that highlight the home's facade and the walkable environment. Sidewalks are common, as are towering shade trees.
