Waterways throughout the suburb

Woodmore is a small, wooded neighborhood centrally located in Chattanooga. This established suburb of grassy hills and winding streams provides a quiet pocket amongst the urban activity of downtown Chattanooga. Additionally, the scenic South Chickamauga Creek runs through the neighborhood. "This is an older neighborhood," says longtime resident and Realtor/broker Grace Frank with Chattanooga Real Estate Group. "Because the area is more affordable, we see a lot of first-time buyers and investors."

Hiking along the levee

Tacoa Park, a 2-mile drive on local streets, features a basketball court, playground and picnic tables. Woodmore residents can go walking or hiking at the Brainerd Levee, which was built to prevent flood waters from South Chickamauga Creek from damaging the Brainerd neighborhoods. This structure created a freshwater marsh and seasonal mudflats. Habitats include a cattail marsh, seasonal mudflats, wet fields, wet woods, shallow ponds and riparian woods. Access is via a paved trail atop the 2.6-mile-long embankment. South of Woodmore is Camp Jordan Park, a sprawling former pasture that boasts many amenities. These include a zipline, a ropes course, an amphitheater and many different athletic fields for baseball, volleyball and soccer. For indoor recreation, Chris L. Ramsey, Sr. Community Center hosts summer camps, athletic programs and social events for residents of all ages.
