Considered “under the radar,” the Rifton neighborhood in Upstate New York’s Kingston may have been seen by moviegoers and television watchers as more than 25 films or TV shows have been shot in the Hudson Valley since 2020. Projects like “Severance,” “The Whale,” and “The White House Plumbers” were all filmed in the region. Local spending generated by the film and TV industry accounts for $57 million annually. “Rifton is one of the hottest areas coming up,” says Hudson Modern Co. Realtor Sean Nutley. “The Hudson Valley culture is exploding, and this lively neighborhood is amazing.” Nutley adds that Kingston is the “center” of the buzz. “Everyone gets to know each other — old locals and new people.” According to Jeanne Boice of Howard Hanna | Rand Realty, most of the residents in the Kington area hamlets are close-knit. “Everyone knows each other. Neighbors hang out on their porches and all the kids play together.”

Victorians and farmhouses

A 97% math proficiency rate
School-aged kids can attend Duzine Elementary, New Paltz Middle and Kingston High schools. Duzine and New Paltz both have B-plus Niche gades. Kingston High School has an A-minus grade and 97% of students at the school are at least proficient in math. There are seven colleges and universities within 50 miles of the neighborhood, including Vassar College.

No neighborhood parks
While Rifton has no parks, there are more than 10 parks, recreation centers and pools in the area. Shaupeneak Ridge, which is 6 miles from the community, is nearly 100 acres of mountain woodland with vistas of the Catskills and Hudson River, Louisa Pond, a waterfall and five and a half miles of paths. Nature lovers also flock to Perrine's Covered Bridge, which spans the Wallkill River and is 154 feet long. It was constructed in the late 1840s.

Several eateries are nearby
Convenience is also an essential trait in the community. Several eateries are near the community, including Bacchus Restaurant Bar & Billiards, Port Ewen Diner and Los Jalapenos. At Bacchus, patrons can grab a burger or wings while shooting a game of 9-ball. Stuffed clams and disco fries are on the menu at Port Ewen Diner. Los Jalapenos is the spot for traditional Mexican tacos. All shopping needs, including grocery shopping, can be met in Kingston, including the Hudson Valley Mall. Kingston is seven miles from the neighborhood.

Baseball fans rejoice
The Kingston events calendar is stacked — on any given week, there can be five to twenty events, like farm stands, video game events, short film series and the premier event, the annual Kingston Artists Soap Box Derby, held in August. There are also courses like teen acting, ukulele playing, knitting and wine tasting. Baseball fans can check out the High-A affiliate of the New York Yankees, the Hudson Valley Renegades, during baseball season.
Transportation
Residents can access routes 213 and 16, which cut through the hamlet. Interstate 87 provides additional access to the rest of Upstate New York. New York Stewart International is a 30-mile trek. There are also two Ulster County Area Transit bus stops, including a park-and-ride. Kingston is seven miles from the neighborhood.
