Rineyville brings the suburbs to the country outside Elizabethtown

The crop rows and silos surrounding Rineyville, Kentucky, would make it easy to assume that it's deep in the country. However, in reality, Rineyville is a residential town, just 7 miles northwest of the center of Elizabethtown. "Rineyville is probably the fastest-growing community around Elizabethtown because it's a good mix of being in the country and being close to the city," says Realtor Chris Howard with Green Team Real Estate Services, who's lived in Elizabethtown for over 20 years. Out here, everything has a bit more room to breathe, including the spacious lots, which are a big draw. "You're in the country, but you've also got subdivisions," Howard says. "So, you get more land, and probably for a better deal than you could in Elizabethtown."

Brand new construction and country homes with acreage

Rineyville's core is made of residential tracts sprouting off Rineyville Road, and the surrounding land is home to farms and multiacre properties. The developments in town give a taste of suburban living in the country. Some include midcentury ranch-style homes on spacious lots, while others feature large brand-new contemporary Craftsman and New Traditional homes. The median home price is around $350,000. Midsize New Traditionals typically fall around this median price, while older ranch-style and prairie-style homes — some on multiacre lots outside town — range from $125,000 to just below the median. Large new homes with four or more bedrooms range from above the median to $580,000. Finally, prices jump for spacious country homes; 10-plus-acre properties go for $630,000 to $675,000.

Rineyville Elementary is one of the best in the district

Hardin County Schools serves the community and earns a B grade from Niche. Kids begin at Rineyville Elementary in the heart of town. Niche gives it a B-plus, making it the district's highest-ranked elementary school. Rineyville Elementary isn't just a daily destination for students; it's a gathering spot for the community, with events like the Fall Festival every November. Students continue at James T. Alton Middle and finish at North Hardin High, which are both rated a B. Alton and North Hardin are about 5 miles north of Rineyville.

Little League games at Rineyville Community Park

Farm fields occupy most of the open space around Rineyville, so residents find outdoor space at Rineyville Community Park. The park is in the heart of town, next to Rineyville Elementary. It has multiple Little League diamonds, grass fields for other sports and a playground. It's also the stage for the Rineyville Farmers Market, held every Sunday. Residents can also drive to larger recreation spaces in Elizabethtown, like Elizabethtown Nature Park and Freeman Lake, about 7 miles southeast.

Elizabethtown's Towne Mall is 6 miles away

Aside from gas stations and a few local businesses, Rineyville is completely residential. Residents drive to Elizabethtown to shop and dine around the Towne Mall. This strip of U.S. 31 West, just north of Elizabethtown's actual town center, is lined with retail plazas. The Towne Mall is a classic indoor mall with plenty of fashion outlets. There's a Kroger and a selection of restaurants on the mall's north side. To the south, there's a Sam's Club, Home Depot and ALDI. There's also Walmart and Target across the road, and plenty more shopping along the stretch. This shopping area has plenty of chain restaurants, and there are locally owned restaurants and breweries in downtown Elizabethtown.

An easy commute to Elizabethtown or Fort Knox

Rineyville feels like the country, but it's just 7 miles from the center of Elizabethtown, which is where most residents go to work. Elizabethtown has a variety of industries, and it's home to Hardin Memorial Hospital, the area's largest medical center. This area's other employment hub is Fort Knox, a prominent U.S. Army base, 10 miles north on U.S. Route 31 West. Louisville is the nearest major city, about 50 miles north. Louisville is home to corporations, universities and major medical centers. Plus, Louisville Muhammad Ali International Airport is the nearest international airport.
