Northern Meadows
A neighborhood filled with a mix of newer and older homes
Most homes in Northern Meadows were constructed by builders after the 2000s, and these new-traditional-style properties are based on pre-existing floor plans. A few Southwest-style homes in the neighborhood with earth tones and stacked-stone exteriors are a nod to a more traditional type of New Mexico architecture. “The majority of properties right now are going to be newer homes, but there are some older properties, too, that have more land and some character that you won’t get from a builder,” Rich says. A Northern Meadows home typically sells for $200,000 to $450,000. Being a primarily builder-created neighborhood, the community offers neat subdivisions, sidewalks and small, landscaped yards. The area's CAP Index Crime Score is 2 out of 10, half the national average score of 4.A-rated education through Rio Rancho Public Schools
Rio Rancho Public Schools is A-rated and is Niche’s best-rated school district in the Albuquerque area. Cielo Azul Elementary and Colinas del Norte Elementary have A-minus Niche grades, while Rio Rancho Middle School is A-rated. Cleveland High School holds an A-minus score and has the largest school campus in the state. “Cleveland High School looks like a college campus,” Rich says. The school also won the Directors Cup three times for its athletics success, including close to 100 combined state and district championships. A satellite campus for New Mexico Highlands University is based in Rio Rancho, and the University of New Mexico is in Albuquerque.Time outside is spent at neighborhood parks and Haynes Community Center
King Meadows Park on King Boulevard, Clayton Meadows Park on Clayton Meadows Drive, and Havasu Park on Havasu Falls Street are a few of the small parks dotted throughout Northern Meadows. These parks give residents open green space, walking paths and playgrounds just a few steps from their driveways. In addition to these neighborhood parks, the Haynes Community Center and Park on Grande Boulevard is 9 miles away and features sports fields and a pool. Rio Rancho is about 10 miles from the Rio Grande Valley State Park and 20 miles from the Sandia Mountains, which are both filled with hiking trails.Concerts and sports games at Rio Rancho Events Center
Northern Meadows is just across Unser Boulevard from Rio Rancho Events Center. The venue is home to the New Mexico Runners Major Arena Soccer League team and the Duke City Gladiators Indoor Football League team. It also holds concerts, conferences and festivals throughout the year. The events center neighbors the University of New Mexico Sandoval Regional Medical Center and the university’s health science campus.Southern Boulevard restaurants and Cottonwood Mall are close by
The neighborhood is 4 miles from Dollar General on Pine Road and 6 miles from Walmart on Unser Boulevard, two of the closest chain retailers. Southern Boulevard, next to Walmart, has a small strip with local houses of worship like Legacy Church Rio Rancho Campus and Church of Christ Rio Rancho, as well as casual local restaurants like Bob's Burgers and Best Lee’s. Joe's Pasta House, farther down the road, is a sit-down restaurant serving traditional Italian dishes, including its signature lasagna. Beyond Southern Boulevard, the Cottonwood Mall on Corrs Bypass in Albuquerque is one of the city's largest shopping centers with dozens of shops offering clothing, shoes and accessories.Removed from state highways or ABQ RIDE bus routes
Northern Meadow is surrounded by local streets and is not near major highways. State Highways 448 and 528 are on the southern side of Rio Rancho, almost 10 miles from Northern Meadows. These highways are part of routes to Albuquerque, 25 miles away, and Santa Fe, about 58 miles from the neighborhood. While ABQ RIDE runs bus routes throughout Albuquerque and Rio Metro Regional Transit has buses and trains through Sandoval and Valencia counties, neither transit system stops close to Northern Meadows. The closest major bus stop is the Northwest Transit Center on Coors Bypass, next to Cottonwood Mall.
