Thanks to its unique layout, Downtown Riverside caters to urban, suburban and rural sensibilities. The cultural heartbeat of the Inland Empire pulses within the eastern part of the community. Here, locals can stroll past museums, arts centers and the Mission Inn Hotel & Spa, the biggest Mission Revival building in the country. Parks parallel the Santa Ana River along the western portion of the neighborhood, while single-family homes are concentrated in the center of the community. History buffs, homebodies and nature lovers find that Downtown Riverside provides an equal balance of cultural attractions, quiet neighborhood streets and natural landscapes.

Home styles include Craftsmans and Mission Revivals
People move to Riverside “for multiple reasons, but mostly because the homes have a lot of original charm,” says Tyler Hungerford, 2023’s No. 1 Real Estate Agent at Keller Williams Riverside. “Many were built before 1940. There are a lot of beautiful, classic Victorian houses.” Along leafy tree-lined streets, Downtown homes and buildings display much of California’s unique architectural history. The diverse selection of homes includes luxury estates, single-family houses and apartment complexes, with styles ranging from Mission Revival to Craftsman. Prices range from about $425,000 to $970,000. Apartment complex rates range from about $2,100 to $3,545 monthly. Residents generally live on wide streets within a short walk or bike ride from schools, parks and shops.

Local restaurants, bars and the farmers market
The downtown street grid was designed long before the advent of the automobile, which makes it quite pedestrian-friendly. Every Wednesday, residents gather at Downtown Farmers Market to browse the offerings of local vendors. One of the many Main Street restaurants is Antonious’ Pizza Café, a family-run pizza joint dishing out pizzas, pasta and salads since 1984. For a creative ambiance and a latte, Back to the Grind is an airy local coffeehouse that hosts poetry readings and live music performances. Nightlife options include Aurea Vista Night Club and Bar and Art’s Bar & Grill. Finally, residents can grab groceries from Maxi Foods Market, Los Novillos Market or Clark’s Nutrition & Natural Foods.
