Relaxed downriver suburb of Detroit with riverside amenities
Sitting along the Detroit River, Riverview is a southwest suburb of Detroit characterized by abundant open land, ample opportunities for outdoor recreation and a unique history reflected in the city’s historical landmarks. Of these landmarks is the architecturally renowned WJR transmitter building, a former radio facility and art deco marvel standing as an iconic symbol for the city. Another is the Nike Ajax Missile Silos, residing at Riverview’s Young Patriot’s Park. Now deactivated, this historical marker was developed in the 1950s as part of the national nuclear response system to safeguard the Metro Detroit area, specifically the automobile and steel industries. Beyond this historical significance, Riverview draws in residents with its well-ranked public schools and expansive riverside location offerings. It also attracts people who prefer a less densely populated area with more space to roam. “What the community is really about here is that laid-back, easy way of life,” says Maya Rushing, a realtor at Keller Williams Paint Park, which has been serving Detroit-area clients for over 30 years. “Residents here are fine not having busy, top-notch entertainment or shopping within walking distance — that’s what nearby Detroit and Ann Arbor are for.” Riverview's appeal lies in its ability to balance a spacious and recreationally abundant area with a close-knit suburban lifestyle while still being close to bigger city happenings.

More residential lot space and golf course living
“Riverview has an interesting mix of old and modified-old homes,” says Rushing when discussing the city's home options. There’s a little bit of everything, from small to mid-size bungalows and cottages to brick ranches. In many neighborhoods, properties have extra wide streets with generous space between the lots. Grander and luxury-style properties on multiple acres of land are commonly found in neighborhoods along the Riverview Highlands Golf Course. While housing options are diverse, all homes in Riverview have more space than typically seen in other Detroit downriver suburbs. Homes range from $100,000 to $400,000, but properties on the golf course can go for up to $800,000.

Casual eats and dining with scenic river views
Riverview keeps up its waterside atmosphere with some casual and laid-back dining spots. The old-school Zorba’s Coney Island, situated on Fort Street Road, dishes out NYC-style hot dogs and other American classics. Sportsmen’s Den is a restaurant and lounge where locals can sit out on an outdoor covered patio to take in beautiful golf course views of the hills while eating American and Italian-style cuisines. For groceries, Concessi’s grocery store is a European-based market with everyday food items and specialty items, including fresh Italian desserts, pasta and homemade bread. Extensive community park system with athletic offerings
Riverview offers many ways to enjoy the outdoors at one of its many large public parks and recreational facilities. Residents can enjoy a wealth of open green space and watch the sunrise or sunset reflect off the water at Young Patriot’s Park's beautiful reflection pond. During the day, there are basketball and baseball courts to explore and a WWII veteran’s memorial to view that sits next to the former Nike Ajax Missile Silos. Vreeland Park is another popular location with pickleball and tennis courts, playscapes and a walking path that circles the entire area. It’s also not uncommon to find deer roaming about in the scenic distance. Perhaps the biggest recreational site is the Riverview Highlands Golf Course, a 27-hole golf course flowing along a soft rolling terrain engulfed by mature trees. It’s also home to various residential neighborhoods scattered beside the golf course.
