Family-friendly Lousiville living with historical appeal
Next door to the historic Locust Grove farm, Riverwood, Kentucky offers its residents close access to the Ohio River, great restaurants and several historic Louisville landmarks. First built in the 1950s, this "Sought-after and family-friendly neighborhood mixes a convenient proximity to downtown with a nice sense of peace and quiet at home," says Joanne Owen, the top Realtor at Kentucky Select Properties. Even though Riverwood is less than seven miles from the heart of Louisville, "Its homes are spread out and spacious. Lots aren't jammed together like some newer developments," says Owen. She explains that this makes it easy to enjoy the natural beauty around the neighborhood, stating that, just beyond the neighborhood, residents can cruise along River Road to take in peaceful views of barges slowly going down the Ohio River and serene bridges going across the water to Indiana. The area is "Perfectly beautiful," Owen says, continuing that "Because Louisville is built right along the Falls of the Ohio River, it's full of rolling hills, big stone cliffs and open grassy fields." And, with the historic residence of Louisville's founder at the mouth of the neighborhood, Riverwood residents get a unique historic and natural look into the city while still having a cornucopia of food and entertainment waiting in The Possibility City just minutes away.

Learning history at Locust Grove
In addition to the historic home of the 12th U.S. President, Zachary Taylor, located about two miles away, Riverwood is right next to Locust Grove, the home of Louisville’s founder George Rogers Clark. One piece of history visitors will learn upon visiting the 18th-century farm and Georgian mansion is that the famous explorers Meriwether Lewis and William Clark, George Rogers Clark’s younger brother, visited Locust Grove after their expedition. Just minutes from most residents' homes, visitors can participate in events like Antiques Market & Fall on the Farm, where they can buy vintage jewelry, China teapots and other antiques. Other events include the Gardeners' Fair, a botanical paradise with plenty of plants for sale, as well as various historical lectures and even Revolutionary War reenactments.
Locust Grove in Riverwood was built circa 1792 by William and Lucy Clark Croghan.

Fun Louisville events on the Ohio River
In this small residential community, tradition is important. Every Fourth of July, residents get out their red, white and blue for a celebratory parade. Weeks before the Kentucky Derby Thunder Over Louisville is another popular event that kicks off Louisville's race season, with an airshow and fireworks that can be seen over the Ohio River. For another time-honored tradition, hop on the Belle of Louisville and travel back in time with a lunch or dinner cruise aboard this vintage river boat.
