Detroit culinary traditions featured in small, local businesses
Just beyond Cross Creek’s southwestern corner, a handful of retail plazas puts conveniences close to home. The North Hill Plaza Shopping Center hosts George’s Coney Island, the local iteration of Metro Detroit’s most famous diner chain. This local franchise continues the Detroit tradition of serving up the traditional “Coney Island hot dog,” a frankfurter smothered in meat sauce, along with other diner classics. In the neighboring City Walk plaza, a Walgreens sits beside a small selection of local restaurants. Hamlin Pub, a second location for a popular Rochester Hills bar, offers live music on Friday evenings in addition to a sports bar atmosphere and pub fare classics like wings and burgers. The same shopping intersection has a local Papa Joe’s supermarket and restaurants serving Italian, Japanese and Levantine fare.
