Hart Farms
Traditional architecture and three-car garages
Hart Farms is a relatively new community, and most homes here were built after 2005; with new construction still going up along winding streets. Trees planted during the early stages of neighborhood development are just beginning to surpass roof gables in height. New Traditional architectural styles are dominant, and prospective buyers will find vinyl siding, stone detailing and grand entryways. Prices range from around $400,000 for the neighborhood’s smallest properties to $600,000 for larger homes with three-car garages. In some cases, brand-new custom homes can sell for upwards of $850,000. Sidewalks line the streets, and lot sizes average over a quarter acre.A namesake park and seasonal ice skating
At the neighborhood’s southernmost border is its namesake Hart Farms Park, which is home to a large playground and field space for casual games of frisbee or flag football. Southern Ridge Park is about 2 miles south, and skaters can lace up and hit the seasonal rink once the temperatures dip below freezing. Southern Ridge is also intersected by Willow Creek, which also passes through the aptly named Willow Creek Golf Course. Non-members are charged daily fees and the Little Willow Executive 9 Hole Golf Course is ideal for those new to the game. Heartland Gun Club & Range is also a short drive away.A decades-old raceway with onsite mini golf
Over 60 years ago, Skyline Raceway opened just south of what is now Hart Farms. “It started in 1960 as a dirt track for people who built their own go-carts,” says longtime owner El Bishop, adding, “We used to have the largest water slide in the state of Minnesota.” Today, the quarter-mile asphalt course attracts plenty of go-cart regulars, and there’s also onsite mini golf. The track closes after Labor Day. “I was born and raised here, and the only thing I don’t like about the city is the winters,” says Bishop. Locals can also drive north to visit the Mayowood Historic Home, a 23,000-square-foot estate now open to the public for tours and lectures regarding the Mayo Clinic’s history in Rochester.Post Secondary Enrollment Options and honors credit at Mayo High School
Area public schools include Bamber Valley Elementary, which receives a B from Niche, Willow Creek Middle School, which scores a C-plus and the Mayo High School, which was awarded an A-minus rating. At Mayo, some students pursue Post Secondary Enrollment Options (PSEO), which allows them to receive college credit tuition-free at Rochester Community and Technical College. While other students may opt to receive honors credits through independent studies or community mentorships with partners like the Mayo Clinic.Shrimp boils and pretzels with beer cheese
According to Bishop, Rochester has everything from barbeque joints to roadside taco stops. Nearby eateries include Fat Willy’s, which is known for its shrimp boils and garage-themed interior; or Rooster’s Barn & Grill, which opens for breakfast at 7 a.m. and begins happy hour at 11 a.m. on weekdays. The barn features pool tables, dart boards and giant pretzels with sides of beer cheese. Big box retailers in the area include Target, Lowes and Old Navy, and residents can catch the latest blockbusters at Marcus Rochester Cinema. There are several grocery store options, nearby including Trader Joe’s, Natural Grocers and there's a Hy-Vee farther north near the Apache Mall, and a Walmart Supercenter off Broadway Avenue.Broadway Avenue commutes and Highway 52 to Minneapolis and Saint Paul
Rochester’s Downtown, home to the Mayo Clinic’s Methodist Campus, is just over 5 miles from Hart Farms by way of 18th and Broadway Avenue. The drive takes around 15 minutes, and Rochester Public Transit buses also stop every hour along Hart Drive on their way toward the city. Rochester’s small international airport is also about 5 miles from Hart Farms, and the facility offers commercial flights to two locations: Chicago O’Hare and Minneapolis-Saint Paul. Driving to the Twin Cities—approximately 90 miles north—takes an hour and a half along U.S. Highway 52.
