Vinyl-sided homes surround small playgrounds in Pine Ridge, a suburban Rochester neighborhood established in the early 2000s. Locals swap out books at small lending libraries, and families set up basketball hoops in driveways and cul-de-sacs. The subdivision is approximately 4 miles—less than 15 minutes—from Downtown, home to the world-renowned Mayo Clinic. Founded in the late 19th century, the hospital and research center employs more than 40,000 people within the metropolitan area, and it’s at the core of Rochester’s economy, attracting medical students, doctors and nurses from around the world. The population’s diversity is reflected in part by the city’s growing culinary scene—restaurants serve everything from Belgian sausage flights to Thai Massaman Curry—and students at Rochester Public Schools speak over 80 unique languages at home. In the wake of multi-billion-dollar city-sanctioned projects like Destination Medical Center, which will bring hospital buildings and infrastructure updates, outposts like Pine Ridge have grown increasingly popular. With the ability to custom-design a brand-new home, it's no surprise that this community continues to expand.

Morning commutes without rush hour traffic
Highway 52 serves as Pine Ridge’s easternmost border, connecting the neighborhood to the Twin Cities about 90 miles—or an hour and a half—north. Public bus stops within the neighborhood are limited, and most residents rely on cars to commute into Downtown Rochester, 4 miles away. Realtor Chris Hus says rush hour is almost non-existent. “It’s not even close to the density of the East Coast. If it’s 7 miles away, it takes 9 minutes,” says Hus. He also adds that the Mayo Clinic has plenty of signage, making the city easy to navigate. Volunteers in blue jackets are also on standby, ready to direct visiting patients lost in the growing network of subways and skyways. Rochester’s small international airport, from which planes fly direct to Minneapolis-Saint Paul and Chicago O’Hare, is about 8 miles south via 18th Avenue or Highway 52.
Pine Ridge residents enjoy nearby charming local shops, perfect for evening strolls.
