Large-scale Halloween decorations, cul-de-sacs and proximity to shopping in Med City
Every Halloween in Wedgwood Hills, a residential neighborhood in Rochester’s Northwest quadrant, the Boyer family decorates with dozens of inflatables, including everything from 7-foot black cats to vampires of equal size. It’s been a tradition in this Northwest Rochester neighborhood for the last decade, and representatives at Holy Spirit Catholic Church, also found within the neighborhood’s boundaries, say the Boyer’s front yard displays have only increased in scope over the years. When blow-up jack-o-lanterns aren’t adorning front lawns and attracting curious families from all around Med City, Wedgewood Hills is quiet with very little thru traffic. Traditional homes surround a namesake park, and residents are also about 7 miles, or a 15-minute commute, from the Mayo Clinic, which employs tens of thousands within Rochester. Big box stores like Sam’s Club and Walmart can be found in Northwest Plaza, just 2 miles outside the neighborhood. In Wedgewood Hills, parking lots, fast-casual restaurant chains and cutting-edge medical facilities are contrasted by equestrian farms and the sweeping vistas of the Northern Hills Golf Course; in other words, this community represents the halfway point between rural life and Rochester's ever-expanding medical metropolis.
Traditional homes on hilly streets
Wedgewood Hills was primarily developed in the late 1990s and early 2000s and architectural styles here are reflective of that era. Prospective buyers will find New Traditionals and bi-levels with two- or three-car attached garages and bold window shutters that stand out against off-white exteriors. Prices hover between $330,000 and $430,000 and lot sizes average just under a quarter acre. As is the case within most residential Rochester neighborhoods, sidewalks line both sides of the street, some of which end in cul-de-sacs; and hills offer views of surrounding subdivisions and undeveloped fields. In front yards, decade-old trees are just beginning to surpass homes in height, and concrete shows the occasional signs of wear and tear from winter snowplows.

A namesake park, outdoor concerts and a municipal golf course
Wedgewood Hills is anchored by a namesake park, which features a playground and field space for games of frisbee or freeze tag. Less than a mile away, White Oaks Park has a small parking lot, a basketball court and a baseball diamond. For one night each summer, the park also becomes an outdoor music venue, where families lay out picnic blankets in front of a makeshift stage, order from food trucks or stop by the traveling bookmobile. It’s part of Rochester’s FORWARD Park Concert Series, a relatively new—and free—tradition sponsored by the Mayo Clinic in all six city wards. “There’s also The Douglas Trail, a 12-mile trail that runs through the town of Douglas towards Pine Island,” adds Realtor Dane White; cycling groups can often be found along its paved sections, whereas the more rugged portions are preferred by equestrians and snowmobilers. Just outside Wedgewood Hills is the Northern Hills Golf Course, a city-owned municipal facility that dates back to the 1970s. According to Head Golf Professional Mike Manhannan, some players have been coming to the course every day for the past 40 years, and an onsite restaurant overlooks the 18th hole.
Wedgewood Hills Park is located in the heart of the neighborhood.

Hy-Vee off Circle Drive and big box retail in Northwest Plaza
Residents can stock up on pantry staples and fresh produce at the Hy-Vee Grocery Store off West Circle Drive, or they can drive to the Walmart Supercenter in Northwest Plaza. The shopping center also has a Dollar Tree, used clothing at Plato’s Closet and a Sam’s Club for buying in bulk. Families order racks of ribs and blooming onions at Texas Roadhouse next door, and Newt’s North on East Frontgate Road has been perfecting its burgers–topped with hickory smoked bacon, fried eggs and even generous scoops of peanut butter—for the last few decades. Locals also highlight Rochester staples like Five West, Smoak BBQ and, of course, Caribou Coffee, a beloved Minnesota chain that has several locations throughout the city.
Hy-Vee is another grocery option for residents.
Northview Plaza is just a short drive away with lots of shopping options for residents.

Native species at the Zollman Zoo and year-round events in Downtown Rochester
Spanning over 630 acres and open to the public, Oxbow Park and Zollman Zoo is home to over 40 native animal species and nearly 10 miles of hiking trails, and admission is free. The Village Community Garden, located on the outskirts of Northwest Plaza, acts as the backdrop for F.A.R.M Fest in the summer and the Mayo Clinic sponsors a year-round calendar of events in Downtown Rochester. There’s also Social-ICE, a late February gathering with human-sized ice sculptures, bonfires and street vendors, plus the Riverside Music Series in the summer and Latino Fest in September.
15 minutes from Downtown Rochester
The Mayo Clinic’s Downtown Methodist Campus, made up of several interconnected research centers, emergency rooms and lecture halls, is approximately 7 miles from Wedgewood Hills via West Circle Drive, and the commute typically takes around 15 minutes. Public transit runs on a limited hourly schedule, and buses stop along 51st and 55th Streets on their way into the city. U.S. Highway 52 leads south towards Rochester’s small international airport, which is serviced by two commercial airlines, and north towards the Twin Cities.
