Rural, industrial, and nautical living meet in Rockford, TN
Rockford blends rural and nautical living with accessible amenities in nearby Alcoa and Maryville and is split by the Tennessee River and Little River. Rockford is conveniently 10 miles from Downtown Knoxville and only 2 miles from McGhee Tyson Airport. “Rockford is a pocket community that is very quiet,” says Anita Shoffner, a Licensed Realtor with Crossroads Realty and lifelong resident with more than 18 years of experience selling houses in Tennessee. “It’s the gateway between Knoxville and Alcoa.” Students can attend schools within the Blount County School District, which is rated in the top ten for Knoxville school districts on Niche. Housing varies here, from large custom brick homes along the Tennessee River to more rural lots near old-fashioned horse farms. And though much of the neighborhood is full of forests and agriculture, the commercial industry here is booming.
Tennessee River homes and rural farms
Homes in Rockford vary wildly depending on where folks put down roots. Riverside suburbs off of Topside Road and Marina View Lane feature large traditional-style brick homes, some with private docks, on the curve of the Tennessee River. These homes tend to cost between $600,000 and over $1 million dollars. Smaller ranch-style and manufactured homes south of the Egwani Farms Golf Course can cost between $150,000 and $300,000. Three-or-more-bedroom homes in the Arrowhead Subdivision off of Maryville Pike can cost over $350,000.

Students in Rockford can attend schools within the Blount County School District, including Rockford Elementary School, which earned a B rating from Niche. Every year, Rockford Elementary School and the City Hall host a Christmas Parade in which organizations and next-door Maryville and Alcoa residents attend the festivities. They can then attend Heritage Middle School, which is also rated a B, and next door is Heritage High School, which scores a B-minus. The Mountaineers football team plays home games at Mountaineers’ Stadium on campus.
Boating on the river near the Smoky Mountains
Fishermen can launch their boats from the Co-op Road Public Boat Ramp, located on the last curve before the Tennessee River meets the Little River, or farther north at the public boat ramp off Old Knoxville Highway. Rockford is also only 20 miles from Townsend, Tennessee, which is the location of one of the entrances to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park. The Little River, which runs through town, flows in from the Smokies, and 18 miles of its stretch is within the park’s boundaries.

Nautical foods and familiar favorites
Nauti K's Riverside Bar & Grill sits along the Tennessee River at Volunteer Cove’s fuel dock and pump-out station on Lake Loudon. This local favorite serves seafood, flatbreads, hot dogs, and sandwiches to boaters who dock there after a long day on the water. For everyday errands, residents can find chain and fast-food favorites on Alcoa Highway, which links Rockford's west end. Find popular fast food and chain favorites like Applebee’s, Starbucks and Shoney’s. The nearest Walmart is about 6 miles away in Maryville, along with Lowe’s, Home Depot and Target.
Annual and weekly events in Rockford
Attend the Green Acres Flea Market on weekends for local produce, food trucks, vendors and seafood. Annually, the Rockford Masonic Lodge produces the popular Smoky Mountain Scottish Festival, including their Highland Games. The event celebrates folk roots, as well as Scottish, Irish and Celtic culture. The event is held in Townsend, Tennessee, just outside the national park.
Industry along the Little River
“There’s a lot of manufacturing in Rockford, so there are many jobs,” Shoffner says. Since the 1900s, Rockford has been the site of Rockford Manufacturing Company on Little River, which produces commercial yarn for mops and ropes. Rockford is now also the site of the large TYS1 Amazon Warehouse, named for the McGhee Tyson Airport, which is only 4 miles south of town. So, while there is plenty of greenery here, there is also some industry that cuts through the landscape.
