Backyard parks in this Rocklin neighborhood
Just west of downtown Rocklin and north of Galleria shopping, Sunset Creekside offers its residents a getaway from all the action. This suburban neighborhood, named for its proximity to Antelope Creek, is highly sought after thanks to Sunset Whitney Recreation Area and Johnson-Springview Park. Residents can walk right from the house to the trail within minutes, and sidewalks are always busy. “During the day I might see at least 10 to 15 people walk outside my house, either with their dog or with their family,” says Realtor Mollie Teames, who’s lived and worked in the neighborhood since 2016. “There are always a lot of kids out playing and people at the parks.” While this suburb caters to anybody who loves nature, parents are particularly drawn to top-rated schools in the Rocklin Unified School District, and Sacramento commuters can get away from big city prices.

Natural playgrounds: greenways, Johnson-Springview Park
Northernmost homes are close to Sunset Whitney Recreation Area — extremely close. This greenway butts up against backyards, so residents are just a few paces from paved and dirt trails. “People drive from all over to park and walk through,” says Teames, an accredited homebuyer specialist. “The kids love it, and you can go through tunnels under the roads and walk along the water. It’s a really unique area.” Southernmost homes can enjoy a smaller greenway along Antelope Creek and Sunset East Park.Johnson-Springview Park is one of the biggest parks in Rocklin, and it’s right in the middle of Sunset Creekside. On its 90-acre grounds, residents can walk trails along Antelope Creek or explore one of its multiuse fields. Tennis and basketball courts are up for grabs, right next to a skate park and roller hockey rink. Plus, Rocklin Community Festival is held here in May; this four-day event features carnival rides and vendors.

Retro ranch-styles with big yards
Even when they’re not using the greenways and parks, homeowners have some open space in the yard: compared to Central Rocklin and Sunset Whitney, Sunset Creekside lots are roughly 30% bigger. The median home price is a little lower than Sunset Whitney, too, but slightly higher than Central Rocklin. Like these other neighborhoods, most ranch-styles were built in the 1970s and '80s, and showcase earthy tones and brick exteriors. Three- and four-bedrooms land between $470,000 and $835,000, and no Mello-Roos taxes are applied. Some homes in the middle of the neighborhood are pricier since they double square footage, and they start at $570,000.

Top marks for Rocklin Unified School District
Most students start at Parker Whitney Elementary, west of Johnson-Springview Park and rated an A by Niche. On the east side of the park, Spring View Middle gets another A rating; its garden club cooks and bakes with homegrown ingredients. Rocklin High scores yet another A and ranks No. 4 of 20 for Placer County public high schools. Its women’s wrestling team got its first state champion in 2024, and its football team won the Divison II championship the same year. While students south of Sunset Boulevard can still attend Spring View Middle, they’ll likely enroll at Antelope Creek Elementary and Whitney High. Both schools receive an A from Niche.

Westfield Galleria and the Fountains nearby
About 3 miles south of the open spaces at Johnson-Springview, the Westfield Galleria is usually packed with activity. This indoor mall attracts visitors from across Sacramento for its 200-plus restaurants and shops, and favorites include the Cheesecake Factory and Nordstrom. Just across Roseville Parkway, the Fountains provide a walkable, outdoor mall experience. Foodies can try Mikuni’s sushi and Yard House’s burgers, and afterward, high-end stores surround a water feature that “dances” to popular music. Outside of this Galleria district, residents can find locally owned spots such as Primos Pizza and Four Sisters Café. Grocery shoppers have plenty of options in Rocklin and in neighboring towns, too. “We have the busiest Costco in the country in Roseville,” says Mollie Teames. “But there’s a new one between Rocklin and Loomis that’ll be opening soon, and it’s going to be a big deal for the neighborhood.”
