The gateway to the North Umpqua River
Glide is a rural neighborhood 16 miles from Roseburg with a strong sense of self. This country area has its own school district, community center, churches, parks and local restaurants. “The Glide community has its own personality,” says David Jaques, Broker/Owner of Al Pine Real Estate 1, who has lived in the area for nearly four decades. “People are distinctly Glide residents, and they're proud of it.” The main draw to the area is its natural landscape. Glide is known as the gateway to the North Umpqua River; it sits next to the Colliding Rivers, where the North Umpqua and the Little River meet. “The outdoor activities are abundant -- fishing, camping, hunting,” says Jeremiah Perry, a Realtor with The Neil Company Real Estate who has lived in the area for three decades. “It’s a recreational haven.”

Oregon wildfire season
One downside to the area's beauty is wildfire season, which happens every year between July and October. In 2020, over Labor Day weekend, Glide experienced a fatal fire — the Archie Creek Fire — which burned over 100,000 acres and 100 homes. Since the tragedy, Umpqua National Forest has been able to restore most of the land. The Division of Financial Regulation, the Oregon insurance regulator, requires wildfire coverage in every homeowners policy. Oregon Wildfire Response and Recovery advises people to create a 30-ft. space around their homes for protection.
