Roseville's shopping and dining destination
Oakcrest is the prime retail and restaurant destination of Roseville, home to one of Minnesota’s largest malls and surrounded by busy shopping centers. “Everything you could ever need is right here,” says Scott Rehovsky, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker Realty. “There’s every big-box store you can imagine.” Retailers make up more than half of the neighborhood with industrial shops covering nearly a quarter of it. Meanwhile, there’s one small subdivision of about 170 houses in the northeast corner. This mid-century residential plot has a suburban layout of single-family homes with spacious yards, giving the illusion of being far from commercial activity, when in reality, it’s all just a few minutes away.
Rosedale Center and the surrounding area offer big box stores and shopping opportunities.

Restaurants, retailers and entertainment at Rosedale Center
Rosedale Center is the fourth-largest mall in Minnesota, featuring two stories of more than 150 businesses. Anchor stores include Macy’s, Von Maur, JCPenney and Dick’s Sporting Goods. Along with shopping, people also head to the mall to catch a film at the AMC theater or to interact with the animals at SeaQuest, whether petting the stingrays or holding hands with an otter. Multiple shopping centers surround the mall with big-box retailers such as Walmart, Target and dozens of others. These shopping centers are full of restaurants as well, most of which are national and regional chains. Together, they provide a dining experience to satisfy just about any craving. Some local spots include India Palace, La Casita Mexican Restaurant and Baldamar, a high-end steakhouse ranked by OpenTable as one of the top 100 most romantic restaurants in the country in 2024. Smash Park attracts lively crowds for a fun outing of pickleball, axe-throwing, duckpin bowling, all while enjoying drinks and artisan bar food.
Baldamar features traditional steakhouse offerings, a robust drink menu & happy hour.

Santa Claus is coming to Roseville
Things really pick up around Rosedale Center starting on Black Friday. “It can get pretty busy, especially during the holiday season,” says Linda Proechel, a real estate agent with Keller Williams Real Estate, whose office is in Oakcrest. “We definitely have some traffic jams.” Rosedale Center goes big with Christmas lights and decorations all over the mall. Santa visits every year to take pictures with children and pets under a giant illuminated castle. The mall also hosts the annual Holiday Dance Party, a free event for kids to dance, watch break dancers and play games.

Midcentury subdivision tucked away from commercial activity
The Oakcrest subdivision was developed in the 1950s, primarily with ranch-style houses, along with a few Colonial Revivals, built on quarter-acre lots. These two- to four-bedroom houses generally range from 1,600 to 2,000 square feet and sell for around $275,000 to $375,000. Attached and detached garages are common features and most houses have fenced backyards with mature trees. Most of the subdivision’s streets are low-traffic areas. Oakcrest Avenue and Fairview Avenue North are the exceptions, where houses line the two main roads that lead to the neighborhood’s shopping centers. One thing to keep in mind is that properties on the north side along Rose Place West are about 100 feet from a train track.

A quick walk to soccer games at Rosebrook Park
While there is a parking lot at Rosebrook Park, it’s no more than a half-mile walk from homes in Oakcrest. In fact, some houses are just across the street from the 8-acre park. It’s often busy with kids and adults playing soccer on the two fields. People can also play tennis, have fun on the playground or cool off in the public wading pool. According to Roseville Parks & Recreations, the park’s playground and pool are due to be upgraded. One possible plan includes turning the pool into a splash pad. The park also has a community building, which can be rented to celebrate special occasions.
