Roselawn
Mid-1900s suburban houses
Roselawn’s straight residential streets are lined with single-family homes built between the 1940s and '70s. The most common designs include ranch-style homes, bi-levels and Colonial Revivals. Most properties feature garages, quarter-acre lots and fenced backyards with neighbors to either side and the back. These homes typically range from 1,000 to 2,500 square feet, selling for around $285,000 to $450,000. Some larger Colonial Revivals have around 3,000 to 3,500 square feet of living space and are priced between $500,000 and $650,000. There aren’t many sidewalks in Roselawn, but the wide, low-traffic streets allow residents to go for casual strolls around the neighborhood.Bustling intersections with shopping centers
The intersection of County B Road West and Snelling Avenue bustles with retailers and restaurants on the north side of the neighborhood. There’s the HarMar Mall, a shopping center with several stores, including Marshalls, Michaels and Burlington. Target is just across the street and Rosedale Center, the fourth-largest mall in Minnesota, is less than 2 miles north. The neighborhood’s busy intersection has an even mix of fast food restaurants, national chains and local multicultural establishments. Taco Libre is a casual spot for specialty tacos and other Mexican dishes. Leeann Chin offers counter-serve Chinese food and Chianti Grill is where many go for an upscale Italian meal. More shopping centers can be found on the neighborhood’s southside at the intersection of Lexington Avenue North and Larpenteur Avenue West. For groceries, there’s Aldi and Cub Foods. This area has more local restaurants, including The Café Meow, a spot to grab a cup of coffee or spend time in the cat lounge, surrounded by adoptable pets. There’s also Keys Café, a staple chain across the Minneapolis metro that was established in 1973. “Keys Café is very popular,” says Johnson. “It’s home cooking with a Minnesota twist. They’ll cook Minnesota wild rice in their omelets and bread.”College preparation at Roseville Area High School
The majority of Roselawn is served by Falcon Heights Elementary School, which earns an A-minus grade from Niche. Those who live north of County B Road West attend Brimhall Elementary School, graded a B. Students from both elementary schools go on to B-graded Roseville Area Middle School and Roseville Area High School, which earns an A. The high school is ranked the 13th-best in the state regarding college preparation. Students have the opportunity to take free college courses at the high school. Juniors and seniors may also attend Northeast Metro 916 Career & Tech Center, where they can earn college credits and obtain industry certifications.Ice skating at Lexington Park
Lexington Park has lots of outdoor activities. There’s a playground surrounded by a grassy field where kids can play while parents watch from a picnic table. The playground is expected to be upgraded by the city in 2025. The basketball court lights up for those who want to play pickup games at night. And there’s a lit-up rink used for hockey and ice skating in the winter and roller skating during the warmer months. Lexington Park’s community building has a kitchen and is frequently rented out for celebrations. Bruce Russell Park shares a parking lot with Roseville Lutheran Church. Though smaller than Lexington Park, it’s still packed with amenities, including adjoined tennis and basketball courts, a sand volleyball court and a playground.Rosefest, New Year's Eve on Ice and a summer block party
Rosefest is an annual celebration of Roseville, featuring a carnival and the Rose Parade. Roselawn residents can catch the parade on the north side of the neighborhood along Country Road B2 West. A few miles away, the Roseville Skating Center hosts New Year's Eve on Ice, where people can skate on the outdoor Oval rink while surrounded by lit up trees as they prepare to ring in the new year.Events are held at Roseville Lutheran Church throughout the year, and they’re not just for members. “We have a big parking lot, which allows us to hold outdoor events,” says Johnson, “and we get people to come from all over Roseville.” The church’s annual Praise fundraiser event is held every summer and is described by Johnson as a big block party with food trucks and family-friendly activities. They also host a fall festival in September. “We have a hospitality manager who cooks up a storm,” says Johnson. “We also have games for little ones and get a license to have beer.”
8 miles to Central Minneapolis and St. Paul
Metro Transit buses operate along the neighborhood’s outlying main roads, including County B Road West, Lexington Avenue North and Larpenteur Avenue West. Minnesota Highway 51 runs north and south, intersecting with east-west Highway 36. It’s an 8-mile drive to both Central Minneapolis and St. Paul, known as the Twin Cities. Minneapolis-St. Paul International Airport is also about 10 miles away.
