Great first-time buys
Located just a couple of miles from downtown Sacramento, Bohemian Heights is a good spot to step into the real estate market. “The affordability factor is huge, and if you’re a first-time buyer, it’s a wonderful neighborhood to get started,” says Cherie Hunt of RE/MAX Gold Midtown, who has been selling homes in Sacramento for over three decades. “It’s certainly getting more popular with shopping and entertainment, and it’s a community that likes to be outside.” The demographics support the first-time homebuyer sentiment, with the median age being 37 in Bohemian Heights. The neighborhood’s prized feature is its location, which places it near some of the area’s largest parks and shopping malls. In addition, Dyer-Keller Elementary School is within walking distance of many of the Bohemian Heights homes.
Fun at Bohemian Park
Locals head to Bohemian Park for some fun in the sun. The park has extensive green space, a playground for children and tennis and basketball courts. Golfers love the proximity to Haggin Oaks Golf Complex. This large complex has a pair of championship courses, 100 driving range stalls and five practice greens. In addition, the course has private lessons from professionals and a sports bar and grill. To the north is Del Paso Regional Park, which has ballfields, an exercise court and volleyball courts. For a solid workout, locals can head to Crunch Fitness, while the Arcade Library has daily events for readers of all ages.

Ranch-builds and condos
Single-family homes are typically mid-century ranch builds with low-flung rooftops and attached garages. Lots are smaller, which makes for easy yard work and winding residential roads have wide sidewalks for jogging and walking throughout the neighborhood. These homes are in the $350,000 to $550,000 range. “These homes are ideal for investors and families looking for their first homes,” says Hunt. With 70% of the population renting, it’s no surprise that there are plenty of condos and townhomes in the area. One or two-bedroom condo units cost between $200,000 to $250,000 and often have amenities such as swimming pools on site.
