Metro Center offers suburban living with an easy commute

Metro Center is a quiet, suburban neighborhood of luxury apartment buildings, office buildings and single-family homes in North Sacramento, just 4 miles from the capital city’s bustling downtown district. Residents enjoy walkable access to local parks and nature trails that border the Natomas Canal, as well as a short drive to nearby shopping plazas. Located at the confluence of interstates 5 and 80, it's well suited for commuting around the city and even the San Francisco Bay Area. “This part of the city is a great, slow-paced area of the city to raise your kids,” says Realtor Latrice Peay of Keller Williams Realty, who has been working in Sacramento for nearly a decade. “It’s known for having good schools, lots of parks and easy access to the highway.”

Mediterranean-style homes and luxury apartments side by side

Metro Center offers a diverse mix of housing options. Provence is a small, gated community of single-family homes built in the late 1990s. These homes are predominantly Mediterranean Revival-style, characterized by stucco exteriors, tiled roofs and arched doorways. The streets are lined with sidewalks and manicured lawns, giving it a quintessential suburban feel. Prices range from around $500,000 to $600,000. The Larkspur Woods and Adagio apartment complexes are located directly across the street, offering upscale living for those who prefer minimal upkeep. “The only drawback of living in this area is that a lot of it is within a flood zone, so residents will probably need to buy flood insurance,” Peay says.

Two Rivers Elementary stands out with state-level recognition

Students can begin their education at Two Rivers Elementary School, which earns a B-plus rating from Niche. The elementary school is a past winner of the California Distinguished Schools Award and was named a Gold Ribbon School in 2016. The next steps are Natomas Middle School and Natomas High School, both of which get C-plus ratings. The high school offers a multitude of career pathways for students, including engineering, digital media, and trades such as construction and automotive repair.

Manuel J. Barandas Park offers trails, courts and canal views

The neighborhood’s only green space is Manuel J. Barandas Park, a 5-acre park situated at the edge of the Natomas Canal. It has walking paths, a playground, basketball courts, a dog park and plenty of spots for picnicking. The park is also an access point for the Natomas Westside Path, which skirts the banks of the Natomas Canal and eventually connects with the trail networks along the Sacramento River. The path also links up with Orchard Park and Skate Park, where residents enjoy ball fields, tennis courts and plenty of outdoor scenery.

Local restaurants and stores line El Camino Avenue

Several shopping centers are clustered around El Camino Avenue. Local eateries include Taqueria Roberto Jr. for authentic Mexican cuisine, Sabor de Minas Brazilian Steakhouse for Brazilian fare, and Azukar Sushi for authentic Japanese flavors. Hot Off The Griddle is a lively breakfast and brunch spot that serves comfort food and coffee. Groceries and everyday essentials are found at Grocery Outlet and Bel Air. It’s less than 5 miles to downtown Sacramento, a hub known for its nightlife, museums and sports arena. “You’re less than 10 minutes from jobs, entertainment and State Capitol grounds,” Peay says.

Interstates 5 and 80 make commuting and travel convenient

Metro Center is situated at the intersection of interstates 5 and 80, making it an ideal location for commuting. Interstate 80 offers a direct route to the San Francisco Bay Area, about 90 miles away. Those who prefer public transportation can catch the bus at the intersection of El Camino Avenue and Gateway Oaks Drive. The Sacramento International Airport is about 10 miles north. The nearest major hospital, Sutter Medical Center, is about 5 miles away.
