Northgate

Mostly one-story homes on raised foundations
Development in Northgate began in the 1950s and continued until the early ‘80s. Split-level homes, bungalows and ranch-style homes often feature two-car garages and stucco or vinyl exteriors; some feature partial stone facades and barrel-tile roofs. Homes tend to be close-set with fenced-in front yards dotted with cypress trees or the odd oak tree. Prices range from $350,000 to $750,000 and mainly depend on how recently the home was renovated. Notably, most homes here were built on raised foundations to protect from flooding. This practice was abandoned by the end of the 20th century, after the Sacramento levees were raised and the local flood risk decreased.After-school programs at nearby schools
Several schools are located within Northgate, generally within walking distance of homes. Strauch Elementary earns a C-plus from Niche and offers an after-school Expanded Learning Program with activities like gardening, Lego-building and coding; the school's annual Fall Festival in October includes face painting, a maze and a petting zoo. The C-plus-rated Smythe Academy of Arts & Sciences is a charter elementary school that requires at least 30 volunteer hours from parents and guardians. Rio Tierra Junior High is rated C, and offers before- and after-school programs in partnership with the Boys & Girls Club of Greater Sacramento. At the B-rated Grant Union High, 3 miles outside Northgate, students can take classes in the Hmong language, which supports Sacramento’s large Hmong American community.Just south of Interstate 80
Northgate is about a mile from Interstate 80 and about 3 miles from Interstate 5. Northgate Boulevard is lined with bike lanes and Sacramento Regional Transit bus stops, and leads about 4 miles to Downtown Sacramento. It's also a 4-mile trip to North Natomas Medical Center. Sacramento McClellan Airport is 8 miles away, while the slightly larger Sacramento International Airport is 11 miles away.Local parks connected by Ninos Parkway
Northgate's largest parks are adjacent to local schools. Stauch School Park is next to its namesake elementary school, with playgrounds, large grass fields and basketball courts. Ninos Park has playgrounds and a community garden with rentable plots, and is connected to Rio Tierra Junior High via the Ninos Parkway, a 1-mile paved walking trail. In 2023, the Natomas Garden & Arts Collective received grant funding to create a quarter-acre pollinator habitat on the Ninos Parkway; dubbed the “Grassland Garden,” this collection of native California grasses attracts monarch butterflies and other wildlife. Northgate Park, located just outside the neighborhood, has large playgrounds and multi-use sports fields.Casual restaurants on Northgate Boulevard
Northgate Boulevard is the area's main commercial drag, lined with chain grocery stores like Foods Co and local options like Shan Market. “It sees a lot of business,” explains Nicki Kalteis, a Realtor with Coldwell Banker. “There’s a good mix of commercial buildings and homes here.” Kiki’s Chicken Place is a local Sacramento-based chain specializing in fried chicken, and about a mile away, Anthony’s Italian Cuisine is a casual, family-run restaurant serving homemade recipes. Locally owned businesses get a lot of community support; for instance, during peak hours, the House Bling Bling Car Wash can have a line around the block. The Promenade at Sacramento Gateway and the Natomas Marketplace are two open-air malls less than 3 miles away, each with national retailers like Nordstrom Rack and Walmart.Holiday events held by the Gardenland Northgate Neighborhood Association
Northgate is a part of the Gardenland Northgate Neighborhood Association, which serves a few neighboring communities. The Association organizes various holiday events, including a Dia De Los Muertos celebration in late October, usually held at Northgate Park with mariachi and ballet folklorico performances.
