Sagle locals enjoy rural lifestyle south of Sandpoint
On the southern shores of the Pend Oreille River, Sagle is a more rural extension of Sandpoint, offering larger lots, forested hiking trails and waterfront recreation. “It’s across the Long Bridge, so it’s out of Sandpoint but still kind of close,” says Pat Bistline, a North Idaho native and local real estate agent with Century 21 Riverstone. “A lot of people commute in from that general area.” The expansive natural landscapes often attract those seeking scenic views and a degree of seclusion, including waterfront properties that are further off the beaten path.
Larger lots with some waterfront properties
Sagle is a sprawling community with spacious lots, spread out along forested country roads. Some homes are concentrated near the highway, providing easier access to neighboring towns, while others offer natural beauty and seclusion. “There are some waterfront properties once you go out 10 miles from the heart, but it’s more of a rural community,” Bistline says. Smaller ranch-style homes and cabins typically range from $200,000 to $750,000, while larger contemporary properties and 21st-century builds can sell for between $750,000 and $1.2 million. Multiacre estate-sized properties, especially on the waterfront, are in the highest demand and can range from $1.2 million to $3 million, depending on acreage.
Dozens of campgrounds and scenic hiking trails
Many campgrounds are scattered around the edges of the community, along the Pend Oreille River, Lake Pend Oreille and various small bays. Garfield Bay Campground also has a boat launch, while Green Bay Campground has a swimming beach. Farther inland, Round Lake State Park is popular for kayaking and fishing. Aside from water activities, there are lots of forested hiking trails with panoramic views. The Gold Hill trail is open for hiking and mountain biking, stretching 3 miles to an overlook with a view of Sanpoint in the distance.
A few casual restaurants with more businesses in Sandpoint
Businesses in Sagle are limited except for a Dollar General, Java Bear Espresso coffee shop and a few food trucks. Some locally owned fast-casual restaurants can be found near the water. Captn’s Table serves fried food near Garfield Bay. Bottle Bay Bar & Grill is a popular spot for burgers and other American fare. Locals on the community’s east side can shop for necessities at Odie’s Bayside Grocery, and chain stores like Walmart are 5 miles away in Sandpoint.
