Plenty of things to do in a small section of St. Louis County
In St. Louis County, the farther west the municipality, the more conveniences there tend to be — and St. Ann is no exception. Only a little over 3 square miles, “St. Ann has more amenities than St. John or Woodson Terrace,” says Karen Poole of Coldwell Banker, an agent specializing in northern St. Louis County. “The Northwest Crossing Plaza has a lot, even an office tower. There are eateries, and there’s a big Menards, so it also has a little more retail.” Though split between commercial and residential properties, most of the community maintains the quintessential suburban vibe that North County is known for, thanks to its mature trees, narrow sidewalks and cozy homes on compact lots.
Cozy home sizes and lower prices south of Interstate 70
Mainly built between the early 1940s and mid-1960s, bungalows and ranch-style homes comprise most of St. Ann’s residential areas. “A lot of these homes that started with two bedrooms and a dining room are now three-bedroom homes. The smallest houses are probably 750 square feet, but some people put on room additions to make them 1,200 square feet,” says Terry Gannon of RE/MAX Results, an agent with sales throughout St. Louis County. “If you want a ‘tiny house’ that’s not a shed from Home Depot, these are the houses.” Because square footage seldom exceeds 1,500 square feet, properties typically stay below $250,000, and most three-bedroom homes range from $115,000 to $150,000. Properties don’t come to market as often as they do in some of the surrounding cities, as residents tend to stick around once they get a place in St. Ann.
Split between two districts: Ritenour and Pattonville
No matter where students attend, public schools are within a mile of most homes in St. Ann. Students along the eastern edge of St. Ann can attend schools in the Ritenour district with at least a C-minus grade from Niche, including Buder Elementary, Hoech Middle and Ritenour High. The rest of students are zoned for the Pattonville district, starting with B-graded Drummond Elementary. From here, they can transition to B-graded Holman Middle and A-graded Pattonville High, a school with Extended Learning Opportunities that allow students to gain direct experience with potential career paths.
Close to the Lambert Airport and ramps to the interstate
Like Woodson Terrace and Bridgeton, St. Ann borders Interstate 70 and the St. Louis Lambert International Airport. Downtown St. Louis is about 16 miles southeast, and bus lines head right to the MetroLink station for easy commutes.
From skating rinks to live music at Tiemeyer Park
Tiemeyer Park stands out from many green spaces in St. Louis County because of its outdoor roller rink and swimming pools. With a tree-lined lake at its heart, the park also features a quiet place to sit on wooden benches, gaze at the fountain or read a book from the Rock Road library branch. The city hosts the annual Party in the Park event at Tiemeyer, bringing live music and local eats once a month from June to August. St. Ann also includes a public golf course just north of its retail hub, inviting residents to explore a nine-hole course along Coldwater Creek.
All the basics off St. Charles Rock Road
The community prides itself on its self-sufficiency. Though one of many small cities in St. Louis County, St. Ann is one of few with stores, restaurants and schools within walking distance. Grocers like Aldi and chain restaurants like Rally’s line St. Charles Rock Road, but local businesses are scattered throughout the area. Sweet Spot Café serves all-day breakfast and donuts off Adie Road, and Bus Loop Burgers features American favorites in a themed space with stop lights and traffic signs on the walls.
