Clifton Heights

Victorian homes and smaller bungalows
The homes along the dense streets of Clifton Heights aren’t huge; they mostly range from 1,000-square-foot homes that sell for approximately $150,000 to 1,800-square-foot homes approaching $300,000. The modest sizes – and the accompanying home prices that tend to be lower than surrounding neighborhoods – are attractive to many house hunters, says Denise Bryant, a Realtor at The Allen Brake Real Estate Team. “Usually it’s your first-time homebuyers and downsizers.” While the properties tend to be similar in size lots, the architectural styles vary. Tour the predominantly residential neighborhood and you’ll spot ranches, bungalows, Craftsmans and the occasional Dutch colonial. At the center of the community, larger Victorian homes surrounding a community park with a lake sell for upward of $500,000.Recreation and rest at Clifton Heights Park
At Clifton Heights Park, the green space's playground, basketball court and duck-filled lake provide a peaceful escape just a few minutes from people's doorsteps. Throughout the year, neighborhoods gather at the park for bonfires and musical performances. Beyond the neighborhood, Clifton Heights residents searching for more outdoor spaces to play and explore often make the 3-mile trip to Forest Park. Spanning 1,300 acres, Forest Park is home to the St. Louis Zoo, the St. Louis Art Museum, a nine-hole public golf course and more.St. Louis schools partner with the St. Louis Art Museum
The city art museum also contributes to Clifton Heights’ educational offerings. Mason School of Academic & Cultural Literacy, the neighborhood’s lone public school, is an arts-focused elementary school with an emphasis on project-based learning. Mason partners with local organizations like the art museum as well as St. Louis University. Niche gives Mason a C rating. From there, students can advance to Long International Middle School and Roosevelt High School in the St. Louis Public School System. Niche gives both secondary schools a C-minus rating.Toasted ravioli and comfort food at Chris' Pancake & Dining,
Although the area is largely residential, that didn’t stop Chris’ Pancake & Dining from opening in Clifton Heights in 1987 to serve hungry locals. Step on over to the no-frills diner and order from the specials etched on the chalkboard – or keep it simple and order a stack of warm, fluffy pancakes and find out why St. Louis Magazine named them some of the best flapjacks in the city. Clifton Heights’ isn’t considered a dining mecca, but residents can easily jaunt over to the neighboring district, The Hill. This area is renowned for its Italian-American cuisine and is the birthplace of the city's signature toasted ravioli.
Quick access to retail centers and downtown via Interstate 44 and Metro transit
For everyday conveniences, residents only need to zip five minutes down the street to the commercial corridor on Manchester Road. There they’ll find Target, Schnucks and Aldi grocery stores, a butcher shop, drug stores and gas stations. Recreation, restaurants and shops are never far, but the neighborhood’s convenience is boosted further by its proximity to Interstate 44, which borders the community to the west and north. Hop on the interstate and be in downtown St. Louis in less than 15 minutes. Cliffton Heights residents are also near Metro St. Louis bus stops along Hampton Road, offering helpful transit options for commuters.
