LaSalle Park
French-influenced architecture
Townhouses and condos comprise most of the neighborhood’s housing, with French influence playing a significant role in the architecture. Cars often park in alleyways and backyards, alleviating congestion on the narrow residential streets. With carefully maintained brick sidewalks and median construction dating years back to 1890, LaSalle Park retains its historical feel. One-bedroom condos start around $150,000, while larger units with extensive renovations may exceed $600,000. Because Interstates 44 and 55 run along the east side of the community, homes closer to South Broadway come with more noise than those farther west. Buildings between the highway and the river are primarily storage and industrial buildings, so most houses are distanced from areas with high flood risk.Green spaces at Mestres Park and Ray Leisure Park
With Mestres Park and Ray Leisure Park nearby, residents can discover walkable green spaces and well-maintained playgrounds within a mile of home. Mestres Park offers acres of open fields ideal for walking the dog or kicking around a soccer ball in the evening, while Ray Leisure Park caters to all seasons, with an extensive play area and a recreation center within its borders. The rec center’s extensive program list includes opportunities to pair up with mentors and join water aerobics classes throughout the week. Baseball season is an exciting time for sports lovers, who can walk less than a mile to Busch Stadium for St. Louis Cardinals games. Enterprise Center is also about a mile’s walk and hosts St. Louis Blues hockey games, as well as big-name musical acts like Usher and Stevie Nicks.Microbrews at 4 Hands, walkable shops downtown
An established St. Louis neighborhood, LaSalle Park offers walkability to dining, shopping, and nightlife. Spots within LaSalle Park like 4 Hands Brewing offer a space to grab a microbrew and a quick bite, while restaurants like Fleur STL serve American favorites in a farmhouse-style setting. With St. Louis’s downtown less than a mile north, grocery stores like Schnucks Downtown and Dollar General’s DGX are close enough to walk to, as are well-known bars like Ballpark Village and Wheelhouse Downtown.Enjoy a show at Old Rock House
Old Rock House, named after the building that once stood where the Gateway Arch now towers over the Mississippi, hosts everything from classic rock tribute bands to southern rappers. Though a music hall, Old Rock House epitomizes the connected nature of the community. “LaSalle Park is a very small, close-knit neighborhood to the point where when we do outdoor concerts on occasion, we actually reach out to the neighbors themselves and let them know when the event is and what the times are, to make sure we’re not making noise and surprising them,” Weber says. “They’ve always been very receptive and supportive of us.”Walkable to the local elementary school
The neighborhood is served by Saint Louis Public Schools. Students begin their education at Peabody Elementary, which is walkable from many homes, and Long Middle; Niche gives both schools a C-minus. From here, students attend Vashon High, which offers career training and certification for high-need occupations in hopes of improving job opportunities after graduation. Vashon High is graded D-plus by Niche.Getting around
Whether staying local or heading out of town, the neighborhood provides public transit options and easy access to nearby interstates. Metro Transit operates MetroBus service through the neighborhood, and the nearest MetroLink rail stop is at the Stadium station, about a mile’s walk. When it’s time to head out of town, ramps to Interstate 44 are right in the neighborhood and link to the St. Louis Lambert International Airport in less than 20 miles.Crime in LaSalle Park
LaSalle’s CAP Index crime risk score is 9, which is higher than the national score of 4. “It gets kind of a bad rap for crime and stuff like that, but the reality is that it’s a small city, and because of that, it’s neighborly,” Weber says. “You do get the people that know each other and support each other.”
