Northampton is located at S. Kingshighway and Chippewa St.
A walkable southwest St. Louis suburb just minutes from downtown
Just 7 miles southwest of Downtown St. Louis, Northampton offers proximity to the city while providing a calmer respite from the hubbub of St. Louis’s center. Known for its unique architecture, Northampton features streets lined with brick Tudors, locally referred to as gingerbreads. Along with its distinctive historic homes, this walkable community features an action-packed park and a vast array of businesses lining the neighborhood's borders, providing residents with shopping and dining options just steps from their front doors. “It feels like you’re in the center of St. Louis with all these little perks of walkability,” says Anna Garcia, local, Realtor and owner of Garcia Properties with 16 years of experience selling in the area. “You’re close to Target and groceries—you’re within seven minutes of everything there.”

One local hang is Golden Hoosier, which features an Art Deco interior reminiscent of the pub's original design in the 1930s. Himalayan Yeti, located off Kingshighway Boulevard, specializes in Indian and Nepalese food. “A house in Northampton makes a night out easy,” says Garcia. “Many of my clients here walk to dinner multiple times per week.”
Various big box stores and national chains are located within the neighborhood. For groceries, residents can head to Schnucks Hampton Village, located at the Hampton Village Shopping Center right across from Target, where locals can purchase apparel, electronics and home goods.

Local recreation and parks
Tilles Park is home to soccer fields, racquetball courts, a tennis complex and a roller hockey rink. The grounds come to life with color in the form of redbud blossoms and purple flowers in the spring, while burgundy and goldenrod leaves flutter from the trees in the fall.
Just outside the neighborhood is Tower Grove Park, a vast green space and arboretum. Dating back to 1889, this wooded park is a staple of the community, hosting educational and cultural programs like art exhibitions, concerts, various lecture series, and the Tower Grove Farmers Market.
For indoor recreation, residents can head to the South City YMCA on Arsenal Street.
Tilles Park features 6 Pickleball courts.

Mature trees line the streets
Predominantly residential, Northampton has businesses scattered on the outskirts while homes line the streets at the center. Mature trees line broad, two-way streets with narrow sidewalks on either side, allowing for ease of walkability. The Tudors are some of the most distinct houses, evoking a fairy tale cottage with its stone archways, foundations and chimneys. Homes on Northampton’s northeast side were built in the 1950s and later, with wood bungalows and Cape Cods prominent. Two-bedroom, two-bathroom homes usually sell for $150,000 to $300,000, while three-bedroom, two-bathroom houses – some of the most popular in the area – fetch between $250,000 to $450,000.

there are often abandoned buildings and properties. you can find plenty of affordable and historically beautiful homes out here. the cost of housing is below the national average. The north st.Louis is somewhat abandoned. south st. louis is up and coming and so is downtown. there are pocket areas that are quite nice.

there are great casual bars, and great bbq spots. some of my favorite casual dining is the dam, which is a sandwich shop. there is good variety between the thai food, BBQ, Mexican, Nepalese food, and of course Americana.

Usually mostly safe on my street, which is a one-way. The problem is Brannon, the street that runs perpendicular to Lindenwood is very narrow. Drivers always don't stay to their side of the street, and lately (not so much in the past) there have been accidents. There are also problems with people parking in the alley and some illegal dumping of construction debris and/or furniture. So I would say my front street is great, but the alley and street it leads out to could use a little help.

There are plenty of jobs in my immediate local area, and more in the surrounding St. Louis area. Many love St. Louis for its cheap cost of living--though this cheap cost may be a bit on the rise. I think the St. Louis job market is pretty good, but other areas might pay more or have a better outlook.
