Plenty of options
Toward the center of the neighborhood, you’ll find more multifamily options, including four-story brick and stone apartment and condo buildings and high-rises with gorgeous views of the city and Forest Park below. In the northern and southern ends of the neighborhood, you’ll find some streets lined with spacious single-family homes. Red brick exteriors and terracotta-tiled roofs may be a strange combination, but their use is evidence of St. Louis’s history as a hub for clay mining and brick and tile making. The architectural styles of these homes draw inspiration from colonial, Tudor and craftsman styles, which enjoyed widespread popularity in the 1920s. Housing costs range from $255,000 to $1.2 million. Homes rarely spend more than 30 days on the open market. Vogal says that with all the community has to offer, it’s hard not to be drawn to the neighborhood. “Not many areas in St. Louis have what Wydown Skinker has to offer,” she explains. “You have parks, education, dining establishments and shopping. It’s like a Tribecca.” The drawback — Krummenacher says there isn’t much inventory in the area. Vogel and Krummenacher say that HOA fees can get steep — as much as $1,200 a month. The sixth most visited park

The 1,300-acre park, 500 acres larger than New York’s Central Park, averages 13 million visitors annually. The park’s roots go back to 1876 and is the 6th most visited urban park in the U.S. Known as the “Heart of St. Louis,” the park hosted the Olympics and the Louisiana Purchase Exposition in 1904. The neighborhood is also home to the Missouri Historical Society Library & Research Center and The Chapel, a local music venueThe schools have a low student-to-teacher ratios
Wydown Skinker is served by the St. Louis Public School District, which operates 74 schools and serves every neighborhood in the city. However, many parents choose to enroll their students in local private schools, like the Forsythe School, located at the corner of Wydown and Skinker Boulevards, which gives the neighborhood its name. Mason Elementary School has a 12-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and is ranked a C by niche. Wydown Middle School has a 9-to-1 student-to-teacher ratio and in 2021, the school was recognized by the U.S. Department of Education as a National Blue Ribbon school.
