A little village near Fort Pierce

Located in St. Lucie County, this little Florida village is just 5 miles north of downtown Fort Pierce. Tucked away in the northern part of town, St. Lucie Village is a short drive from most retail shops and locally owned businesses. St. Lucie Public Schools offers several educational options to choose from, and the Donald B. Moore Preserve is a lush green landscape for families and pets to enjoy. St. Lucie Village is right on the Indian River, making it a great place to build on the Intracoastal Waterway.

Build a dream home on the Intracoastal Waterway

Empty lots for sale in St. Lucie Village are great for building dream homes or putting down roots. “St. Lucie is one of the last places in Florida at this price range where someone can buy a home on the Intracoastal,” says James Tobaschus, Broker for Central Coast Realty. “They can dock their boats or get to the ocean in minutes. Whether you’re investing or just want to live in a beautiful place, this is the area to do it in." Lots with half an acre north of the Donald B. Moore Preserve can cost anywhere from $175,000 to $300,000, while large lots that stretch from the Indian River to the train tracks by Old Dixie Highway can be priced higher than $1 million. One to three-bedroom inland homes can sell at prices between $200,000 and $500,000, while large waterfront properties with three or more bedrooms are often valued at more than $700,000.

About 6 miles south on North 25th Street is Lawnwood Elementary School, which earns a C-plus from Niche and is home to the Lawnwood Skate Park, several baseball diamonds, Lawnwood Stadium and the Kids’ Crossing Playground. A little farther south from there is Forest Grove Middle School, which also earns a C-plus. Five miles southwest of St. Lucie Village is Fort Pierce Westwood Academy, home of the Panthers and the only STEAM magnet high school on the Treasure Coast. It earns a B-minus from Niche.

Donald B. Moore Preserve

With easy-to-follow trails and plenty of shade, the Donald B. Moore Preserve makes up about a third of St. Lucie Village. Close to the inlet waters of the Indian River and Atlantic Ocean, several residents walk their dogs or take their families on day trips through the park. Visitors can enjoy the view tower on the east side of the park, which overlooks the Indian River. The park also offers disc golf, volleyball, grills and bird-watching spots. Other outdoor recreation includes golfing at U.S.1 Golf, the Fairwinds Golf Course and boating or fishing on the Indian River.

Enjoy the theater or market in Downtown Fort Pierce

Downtown Fort Pierce is where the action is for events, theater performances and gatherings. The Downtown Farmers Market of Fort Pierce is open on weekends just outside Gazebo Park. On Wednesdays, experience the Sunrise Flea Market and Green Market. Catch a show at the Sunrise Theater, which hosts several performances annually, including musicals, comedies and ballets.

Getting around St. Lucie Village

Folks in St. Lucie Village get where they need to go by traveling up and down Old Dixie Highway or US-1. While the Treasure Coast International Airport is nearby, it is primarily used for flight training, charter and taxi services, aircraft maintenance and medical transport. Bus lines run east and west on St. Lucie Boulevard, but most folks get around by car. Since St. Lucie Village is only a mile or two across, walking or biking along the quieter streets is still possible.

Noise along US-1 and Florida heat

Living close to the Old Dixie Highway or US-1 may get noisy for St. Lucie Village residents, so living closer to the water is more likely to be quiet. Alligators, snakes, and wild birds can be seen here, and like with many Florida neighborhoods, there are numerous hot days throughout the year, especially in summer. Temperatures easily rise over 75 degrees Fahrenheit most months.
