Homes dating back to the early 1900s are on par with East Side prices
Sidewalks line the neighborhood’s residential streets, where you can find a mix of homes from the early to mid-1900s. Older styles include bungalows, cottages and the occasional Tudor Revival, and there are some split-level and ranch-style homes. Residents can park on the street, but the oldest homes have driveways and detached garages. Newer properties have attached garages. The median single-family home price in Prosperity Heights is only slightly higher than in the nearby Hazel Park neighborhood and is on par with Hayden Heights. Depending on size and condition, you can expect to pay between the high $100,000s and the low $400,000s. Townhouses and condos can cost from the mid-$100,000s to the mid-$200,000s. “It’s still under that price point where it’s very affordable, and you actually see multiple offers,” says Lupe Dominguez Gonzalez, Realtor with the Hartmann Team at Re/Max Results, who grew up on the East Side. Over 40% of the residents rent, and there are some apartment complexes in the neighborhood. “Whether it’s a first-time homebuyer or someone setting their roots forever, it’s their home, and I think everyone just wants to help out,” Dominguez Gonzalez says.
Prosperity Heights offers a selection of starter homes.
There are also condos in the neighborhood.

Phalen Regional Park is home to the Changsha China Friendship Garden.
Phalen Regional Park offers outdoor recreation and popular events
Living in Prosperity Heights means you are just over a mile from Phalen Regional Park in Payne-Phalen, one of the largest parks on the East Side. “Everyone knows Phalen, and the thing is, it’s so accessible,” Dominguez Gonzalez says. “You could be coming from Maplewood... and it’s right there at the center.” At the heart of the park is Lake Phalen, with its sandy beaches and boat docks. Other amenities include:
Miles of multiuse trails, where you can bike and hike
The Saint Paul-Changsha China Friendship Garden, known for its striking pavilion
A recreation center, which has a full gym and programs for all ages
Phalen Park Golf Course, a public, 18-hole course
Playgrounds and athletic fields, where you can bring the kids
The park hosts several events throughout the year, from regular 5Ks to annual celebrations. One of the most popular events is the Dragon Festival, which is held every July. The day kicks off with dragon boat racing, and the rest of the schedule includes other Asian-Pacific educational, athletic and artistic activities throughout the year.
Neighborhood parks have walking trails and recreational fields
You don’t have to travel for some outdoor fun, with Prosperity Heights and Prosperity parks in the neighborhood. The former is nearly 10 acres of open land, with a small pond and trails that lead to Prosperity Park, where you can find more traditional amenities like baseball and softball fields, a playground and bocce ball courts. "It's one of those parks where you just go and have the kids running around," Dominguez Gonzalez says.
Prosperity Heights Heights has frequent Metro Transit bus service along White Bear Avenue.
Downtown Saint Paul is 15 minutes away
While you can walk to the parks in the neighborhood, you’ll need to drive or take public transit to get across the Twin Cities. Maryland Avenue leads to Interstate 35 East, and you can reach downtown Saint Paul in about 15 minutes. It’s about a 30-minute commute to downtown Minneapolis. Metro Transit buses stop along Prosperity and White Bear Avenues.
White Bear Avenue has shops and restaurants
White Bear Avenue is one of the East Side’s largest commercial corridors. “In all these neighborhoods, White Bear Avenue is your best friend,” Dominguez Gonzalez says. You can find a mix of shops and restaurants, including:
Tee Pwo Asian Market, which has specialty groceries
Best Steak House, which has been serving porterhouse and other steak cuts since 1973
Pappy’s Chicago Style Eatery, which is known for its Chicago dogs and Philly cheese steaks
