Luxury Victorian homes next-door to the Minnesota governor
Summit Hill residents could count Minnesota's governor as a neighbor. While the opulent governor's residence outshines most of the surrounding buildings, elegant, stately living in well-preserved historic mansions is still on the table. Summit Hill holds many Victorian houses, the majority original to when the neighborhood was built. Very few buildings have been constructed since the 1920s, maintaining Summit Hill's 1800s atmosphere. Prices start at $100,000 for a one-bed, one-bath co-op. A four-bedroom Victorian will be in the $400,000-500,000 range, while grander, mansion-like historic homes are priced from $1.3M up to $2M. Spacious luxury condos can go for near $900,000.
Artisan groceries just down the street from historic homes
Grand Avenue has a high-end main street feel with upscale boutiques occupying both commercial properties and converted Victorian houses. Fine dining and gourmet grocers share sidewalk space with spas and art galleries. South of Grand Ave, the rows of houses are more snugly spaced, but are luxurious nonetheless. Find townhouses and condominium options throughout the neighborhood. Summit Hill's reputation for luxury carries into its everyday living experience. The neighborhood grocery stores carry gourmet and specialty products. Golden Fig Fine Foods offers exclusively American-made artisan foods. Seasoned Specialty Food Market carries local produce, meats, and grains along with ready-to-make meal kits and fresh made deli options.

Fine dining lines Grand Ave alongside quaint cafes
The majority of Summit Hill's amenities are on Grand Ave. Possibly the most palatial of them is The Lexington. Established in 1935, The Lexington grills premium steaks and seafood to accompany an array of hors d'oeuvres and specialty cocktails in its old-fashioned banquet halls. Down the street, sister businesses Café Latte and Bread & Chocolate serve gourmet goods. Café Latte's combination bakery, cafeteria, and pizza and wine bar make it a go-to any time of the day. Bread & Chocolate is an espresso bar centered around pastries and paninis for breakfast and lunch.

Anthropologie and Pottery Barn occupy the street's center stage, though there are also stores like Mischief Toy Store and Red Balloon Bookshop for the young and young at heart. For outdoor fun, there's Fjällräven, Freewheel Bike or Running Room. These sports shops get shoppers outfitted for their next adventure. Everyday needs are just as convenient for people and pets alike
In addition to Grand Avenue's upscale amenities, there's Anytime Fitness, Grand Ole Creamery & Grand Pizzeria, and Walgreens, covering everything from health and wellness to the urge for a slice. Several clinics also line the avenue, including physical therapy and chiropractic care as well as traditional doctors. And four-legged friends are welcome at Grand Avenue Veterinary Center.
Residents come together for street festivals
Find inflatable obstacle courses, live music, food trucks, and an archery range at the annual Summit Hill Fall Festival, a weekend of community camaraderie. Or, join neighbors at the Citywide Spring Cleanup collecting litter in honor of Earth Day. Summit Avenue is the longest avenue of Victorian homes in the country. Take a stroll along this prestigious avenue, noting in particular the Burbank Livingston Griggs Mansion or Chauncey and Martha Griggs House as excellent examples of the historic architecture. To go inside one of these buildings, book a tour of the Minnesota Governor's Residence or the St. Paul College Club. Grand Old Day, one of the Midwest's largest street festivals, was canceled during the pandemic but returned to Grand Avenue in June 2023.
