Midtown Saint Petersburg
Historic bungalows and craftsman homes
Midtown has various home types, including Bungalows, ranch-style, and renovated craftsman homes. Many of these homes are historic and built in the 1920s, and new residential development in this neighborhood has provided more options for potential homebuyers. Homes in this neighborhood start around $280,000 for a 2-bedroom bungalow home, with prices increasing to $425,000 for a 3-bedroom ranch-style home on a private lot.Vintage restaurants and Tampa Bay baseball
For dinner, The Chattaway is the place to be. The Chattaway has been serving old-school American dishes since the 1930s and features local music, outdoor seating with fire pits and the atmosphere of an old English tearoom. For breakfast, there is no better option than Skyway Jack’s, offering a humble, diner-like experience that serves hearty, southern-style breakfast classics. For a night in, residents can find groceries at Midtown Supermarket, a local grocery store on 18th Avenue. For something more familiar, Aldi is located just southeast of midtown off Interstate 275.To watch a nail-biter, baseball fans can sit in the stands at Tropicana Field during the next Rays baseball game. Locally referred to as “The Trop,” the stadium has been serving the Tampa Bay Rays since 1998 and is the only year-round venue in Major League Baseball. There is also an antique market hosted nearby in Grand Central on the first Saturday of every month that is a staple in community life.
SHINE Mural Fest and St. Pete events
This city is home to many significant annual events, including the Grand Prix of St. Petersburg, an international racing exhibition on a waterfront track downtown. Localtopia is a celebratory event for the area to showcase independent businesses and community organizations. The SHINE Mural Festival calls artists from around the world to paint murals throughout St. Petersburg in a tradition that brings color to the scene for years to come. The St. Pete Pride festival is also the largest LGBTQIA+ celebration in the southeast.Endless academic opportunities
Along with an abundance of home options, there are plenty of schools in this neighborhood to choose from. Midtown is home to magnet, charter, and private schools, offering various opportunities for students. Melrose Elementary School, for example, is a magnet school with a focus on multimedia journalism classes, sending students into the world with the confidence to ask tough questions. Perkins Elementary School has an overall Niche grade of B, with a low student-teacher ratio and diversity as one of its strengths. Thurgood Marshall Fundamental Middle School receives an A-minus overall grade. Gibbs High School has an overall grade of B and offers advanced college prep courses for students.Wildwood Park and the “Jet” Jackson Center
Residents looking to stretch their legs in the fresh air can visit Wildwood Park, which has a playground, sports fields, and indoor options like the Thomas “Jet” Jackson Recreation Center. The Campbell Park Recreation Center, another option, was donated to the city during the Roaring ‘20s. A visit to St. Pete Skatepark or the E.H. McLin Pool is another great way to get outside for some exercise.Walk or take SunRunner St. Petersburg
While exploring, residents may notice how easy it is to walk almost anywhere. “The city has really put an emphasis on becoming more pedestrian friendly and walkable,” Spencer says. The SunRunner bus system is also very reliable and makes regular runs every 20 minutes to downtown, the beaches and everywhere in between. This convenience has made it possible to reach all kinds of amenities in or out of the city without the need for a car. From Midtown, residents can walk to a bus station, head to the beach, take the ferry over to Tampa or use the scooter and bike stations around the city.
