Suburban Salem amenities a short walk from downtown
North Salem offers a more suburban community within walking distance of downtown. Multi-unit homes make up the majority of the area, with a number of playgrounds, paths and sports fields nestled in between for close-by recreation. There are restaurant and shopping options nearby, and amenities are connected by residential roads well suited for both pedestrians and drivers. “The area is a lot less dense than downtown Salem, but it is much more walkable than some of the more suburban parts of Salem,” says Michael Selbst, an agent at Gibson Sotheby's International Realty who has lived and worked in Salem for over 11 years.

Multi-unit Colonials and New Englanders
Many area homes are Colonial Revival or New Englander styles that were constructed in the early 1800s and 1900s. These homes sit closer to the street, allowing space for a hidden garden or pool. “There are a range of housing options, from single-family homes to houses that can have two or three families inside,” Selbst says. Condos and multi-unit residences range between $300,000 and $800,000, and single-family home prices cost from $500,000 to $850,000. Some larger and more historic homes can even rise up to $1.1 million.
