Arlington Pond
Year-round outdoor activities
Arlington Pond is a paradise for outdoor enthusiasts, offering a wealth of recreational opportunities throughout the year. In the warmer months, the fully recreational lake invites residents to enjoy swimming, water skiing, boating, jet skiing, and kayaking. During the winter, the lake transforms into a winter wonderland, perfect for ice skating, snowmobiling, and ice fishing. The Dockside Marina, located off North Main Street, is an ideal spot for boaters to refuel and pick up supplies at the convenience store. For those who love hiking, the nearby Salem Town Forest offers miles of multi-use trails for cross-country skiing, biking, and horseback riding. The Salem-Windham Rail Trail provides an expansive path for walking and biking, while the Atkinson Resort & Country Club is just a few minutes away, featuring a stunning 18-hole golf course and a family-friendly 9-hole par 3 course.Bonfires on Hot Dog Island and Fourth of July boat parades
The neighborhood celebrates numerous events throughout the year. “There’s a small island in the middle of the lake that’s owned by an association that’s voluntary to join,” Liffmann says. “They host a fishing derby for kids, annual cookouts and bonfires.” Affectionately known as Hot Dog Island, the space has barbecue cookers, benches and a fire pit, accessible throughout the year. One of the biggest neighborhood celebrations takes place each Fourth of July. Participants decorate their boats in various themes, from tropical islands with inflatable palm trees to Santa’s sleigh, and parade around the water before the fireworks display after dark.A wide range of home prices in Arlington Pond
Buyers will find single-family properties that range from small cottages for $350,000 to large new traditional- and colonial-style builds that can surpass $1.5 million. Prices typically rise with proximity to the water, as pond-front properties often have private docks, beaches and spacious patios. Homes directly on the water may be at risk for flooding, and owners may need to purchase extra flood insurance. Towering trees often serve as a barrier between residential lots, and gravel roads farther inland become quite narrow. The Tuscan Village shopping and dining experience
Within about 5 miles, residents can visit the Tuscan Village, an upscale, mixed-used district for shopping, dining and entertainment. The space also has apartments, salons and hotels that host numerous events. Shopping at the village includes a Market Basket and major retailers, like Pottery Barn and Williams Sonoma. Restaurants range from national chains to independently owned spots, such as The Capital Grille for a fine-dining experience with over 350 wine options. Apart from those at Tuscan Village, other popular restaurants nearby include the Copper Door, Trattoria Amalfi for Italian, and as Liffmann says, “On The Corner Grill in Derry is a local favorite.” The Mall at Rockingham Park, along with plazas off of South Broadway, offer additional restaurants, retail and big-box stores, such as Target and The Home Depot. The Salem Public Schools district
Children may attend North Salem Elementary and Woodbury for middle school, which both score B-plus grades on Niche. Salem High School (SHS) earns a B and offers programs for a variety of interests. SHS students can take performing arts and Advanced Placement classes or choose Career & Technical Education paths in fields such as engineering or graphic design. The elementary school is a few blocks away, though the middle and high schools are about 4 miles away, closer to the center of town. Two commercial airports within an hour and access to I-93
Salem Road cuts through the northern part of the neighborhood and flows toward Interstate 93, accessible within 5 miles. I-93 heads toward Concord and Boston, both about 35 miles away in opposite directions. Broadway is a section of New Hampshire Route 28, which leads to Interstate 495 in Andover. Most people get around by car, though Liffmann says, “While there’s not public transportation, people can get to Boston or the airport by Park & Ride buses.” The Manchester-Boston Regional Airport is around 20 miles away, and Boston Logan International Airport, 40 miles southeast, offers flights to hundreds of destinations.
