Locals can live, dine and shop in Depot Village
Though it is an established residential community, Depot Village has also become well-known in recent years as the business hub of the town of Salem. “It’s a mixed-use community, full of apartments, condos, retail and commercial areas,” says Melanie Norcross, a Salem local and Realtor with Keller Williams. Over the last 10 years, the town’s government has encouraged growth in Depot Village to make it a neighborhood rich in commercial development, office space and industrial sites. This also involves making it comfortable for folks to live in the community’s townhouses and single-family homes of varying ages and sizes.

People often leave Salem for work. “A lot of people commute into Massachusetts,” Norcross says. “We’re the first town over the New Hampshire border, so it’s close enough of a drive.” Commuters can reach Boston after a 35-mile drive along Interstate 93, a trip that takes around 40 minutes but can vary depending on traffic. The Boston Express bus stops at the station along Raymond Avenue for folks who want to catch a direct bus to or from the city.
