20th century suburban homes beside modern condos
Homes have been built in the neighborhood from the early 1900s through the postwar era, with Cape Cods, ramblers, Colonial Revivals and bi-levels found throughout Depot Village. There are new construction homes built in the last decade. Streets get more suburban and tree-lined farther away from the main roads, while mobile homes, condos and townhouses are localized around South Broadway. Older condos are priced in the $200,000s, while newly built condos cost between $600,00 and $1 million. Townhouses typically sell in the upper $700,000s, while mobile homes are usually priced between $125,000 and $330,000. Other single-family homes cost between $350,000 and $885,000.Canobie Lake for summer fun, and hiking on the Salem Rail Trail
Folks head north of the neighborhood to Canobie Lake, a 375-acre reservoir popular for kayaking and sailing, while anglers can cast lines from the shore to catch largemouth bass and bluegill. Canobie Lake Park is an amusement park that draws visitors from across the New England area in the summer months to ride roller coasters or swim at the Castaway Island Water Park. The Salem Rail Trail runs parallel to Broadway and is part of a longer multi-use path for hikers and cyclists to take as far south as Methuen, Massachusetts.Students are served by Salem School District

When it comes to local events, Norcross says that “Tuscan Village does a concert series that’s open to the public every Thursday through Sunday during the summer months. [And there are] Christmas markets and shops, car shows and, of course, fireworks on the Fourth of July.” Tuscan Village normally hosts Salem’s Fourth of July celebrations that include food trucks, live music and a fireworks show once the sun sets.Locals commute to Boston in under an hour
The city has taken steps to improve Depot Village’s pedestrian infrastructure to make it less car-dependent. The shopping-heavy south end of Depot Village has been designed with consistent sidewalks and bike lanes to encourage people to get around without a car. People often leave Salem for work. “A lot of people commute into Massachusetts,” Norcross says. “We’re the first town over the New Hampshire border, so it’s close enough of a drive.” Commuters can reach Boston after a 35-mile drive along Interstate 93, a trip that takes around 40 minutes but can vary depending on traffic. The Boston Express bus stops at the station along Raymond Avenue for folks who want to catch a direct bus to or from the city. The Mall at Rockingham Park for shopping, and Tuscan Village for dining
The Mall at Rockingham Park, the largest shopping mall in the state, spans one million square feet within Depot Village. Shoppers can browse 150 retailers, enjoying New Hampshire’s lack of a sales tax. Shoppers can head across the street to Rockingham Plaza to get groceries at Market Basket, a regional supermarket. Tuscan Village is a newer development that is heavy with upscale eateries and fast-casual chains among condo complexes. South Broadway and Main Street are the biggest commercial corridors in the neighborhood, with the former hosting MaryAnn’s Diner, a ‘50s-themed restaurant with an extensive brunch menu. Main Street features smaller local spots like Giovanni’s Roast Beef and Pizza for lunch and Hawksie’s Ice Cream Fac-Torri for dessert.
