Conveniently located established neighborhood in north Salem
Northgate is an expansive mixed-use neighborhood in north Salem, and is home to the city’s oldest neighborhood association. The area is full of residential and industrial properties, with a few local shops and restaurants thrown in as well. While the neighborhood association and the North Gateway Redevelopment Advisory Board help build camaraderie with residents, the accessibility of Northgate is the main draw. “We save an hour a day. Shopping, schools, major streets—everything is walkable,” says Jose Gonzalez, the principal broker at Tu Casa Real Estate with over 20 years of experience. The neighborhood is located along major roads like Interstate 5 and Silverton Road, offering easy access throughout Salem and the Willamette Valley. Streets are lined with sidewalks for walkable trips to daily essentials, and several bus routes serve the community.
International flavors at local Northgate businesses

Don Froylan Creamery makes Mexican-style cheese and has won several awards for its queso fresco and hand-stretched queso Oaxaca. The family-owned shop has a quesadilla bar offering dishes with various toppings. Just down the street, Lum Yuen Restaurant serves a broad menu of Chinese and American food with fresh ingredients. Groceries are available at nearby stores like Safeway and Walmart. Que Huong Oriental Foods sells Asian groceries and gifts. East of the neighborhood, Lancaster Drive is a major shopping corridor with national retailers and a large indoor mall at Willamette Town Center.

Bringing neighbors together for Northgate community events
Northgate residents pride themselves on community, and the neighborhood association hosts regular potlucks, door-decorating holiday contests and book giveaways for children. A local favorite is the summer Fun Friday Social held by the Hallman-Northgate Family Council at Northgate Park. “This was to bring families and people together,” Gonzalez says. “About 500 people show up every Friday in July for free food, and it’s a resource fair. Salem Police Department is there with their puppy, and all organizations that serve families are present. You’re not going to see an event like this anywhere else.” In addition to free food, the event includes games, activities and giveaways.
