On main street, there are shopping centers with big-box retailers like Target scattered with fast-food and chain restaurants like Olive Garden. Groceries can be picked up at the Safeway or the Walmart Supercenter in nearby Westridge Plaza.
Schools with vocational opportunities
Northridge students can begin their education at Henry F. Kammann Elementary School and then go on to Harden Middle. The schools score a C-minus and C-plus, respectively, on Niche. North Salinas High offers vocational opportunities like their health academy with classes such as Sports Medicine and Foundations of Nursing that help students progress into a CNA program. A short drive from the mall, Northgate Park features a basketball court surrounded by grassy fields where new palm trees have been planted. Any area near the Northridge Mall will get heavy traffic during events like the Monster Jam in May and Salinas Rodeo in July, which happen in close-by neighbor, Sherwood Gardens.
Accessible by sidewalks, streets and freeways
Adjacent to US 101, residents have access to the city of Monterey, known for the Monterey Bay Aquarium and Pebble Beach. “Northridge has a lot of access to public transportation,” says Carbone. It’s a part of the Monterey-Salinas Transit (MST) where the 41 Northridge-Salinas via East Alisal route makes stops at the mall and the Natividad Medical Center.
