With lower taxes and a central location, Bridgewood offers comparative affordability without sacrificing highway access and proximity to downtown San Antonio, less than 25 miles away. The suburb is also part of the top-rated Northside Independent School District, which earns an overall grade of B-plus from Niche.

Neighborhood parks, pools and nearby trails in Culebra Creek Park
The Bridgewood Recreation Center anchors the neighborhood with a playground, basketball court and picnic pavilion. It’s also home to the Bridgewood Community Pool, where those with seasonal memberships can cool off all summer long. Bridgewood Park is another popular spot for outdoor recreation. It features a playground, a walking track and an athletic field with several soccer goals. Bridgewood residents gather in the park for neighborhood events, including an annual fall festival with local vendors, live music and seasonal activities. Residents of Cross Creek have access to a swimming pool and playground. The two communities are just north of Culebra Creek Park, a 145-acre green space with shaded walking trails and multipurpose athletic fields. Bridgewood is a KB Home community where most houses were built throughout the early to mid-2000s. It consists of five subdivisions: Bridgewood, Bridgewood Estates, Bridgewood Villas, Bridgewood Ranch and Bridgewood Meadows. New Traditional homes with brick facades are the norm throughout the neighborhood, and homebuyers will find a mix of single-story and two-story properties with three to five bedrooms. Home prices typically range from $200,000 to $350,000, and Bridgewood has a mandatory HOA that requires residents to pay monthly dues. Cross Creek is another KB Home community with newer construction and higher prices. It features neo-traditional homes with brick and vinyl facades, and like Bridgewood, this includes a mix of single-story and two-story properties with three to five bedrooms. Properties in Cross Creek sell for $275,000 to $450,000, and it also has a mandatory HOA with monthly dues.

Students who live in Bridgewood may attend Dr. Joe Ward Elementary School, Wallace B. Jefferson Middle School and William Howard Taft High School. Taft High School is also home to the Communications Arts High School, a magnet school emphasizing college preparation. Kids in Cross Creek can attend Kay Franklin Elementary School, Dr. John M. Folks Middle School and Sonia Sotomayor High School. Franklin Elementary School and Folks Middle School earn a B-plus, and Niche does not yet rate Sotomayor High School since it opened its doors in 2022. Residents are about 5 miles from Northwest Vista College, one of five community colleges in the Alamo Colleges District.

Bridgewood is home to the Shaenfield Ranch Center, which features local businesses such as Service Cuts Barbershop and Luminous Nails & Spa. It also has fast-casual eateries like Stout’s Pizza Co. and Yoshiya Umami Beef Bowl, a counter-serve spot known for its Japanese flavors. For dessert, Kuma serves up ice cream and Hong Kong-style egg waffles. Next to the Shaenfield Ranch Center, construction has begun on the Portico at Shaenfield, a mixed-use development that will bring more office, retail and restaurant spaces to the area beginning in 2025.
When it’s time to run errands, residents can head 3 miles south to the Alamo Ranch shopping center. It’s a major retail destination, with Target, JCPenney, Lowe’s and more. The closest grocery store is Walmart Neighborhood Market, which is less than 2 miles away. On the weekends, Shaenfield Road is a hub for San Antonio’s growing food truck scene. The thoroughfare runs along Bridgewood and Cross Creek’s northern edge, and food truck favorites include Texas-style barbecue from BobeQ.

Loop 1604 connects Bridgewood to downtown San Antonio and beyond
Loop 1604 is part of a hub-and-spoke highway system surrounding downtown San Antonio. The highway connects residents to the rest of the Alamo City, and downtown attractions like the San Antonio River Walk are about 22 miles from Bridgewood. Loop 1604 also provides access to major thoroughfares such as U.S. Route 90 and State Highway 151. For more distant travels, San Antonio International Airport is around 22 miles away. Residents are also less than 20 miles from two military facilities at Joint Base San Antonio: the Lackland Air Force Base and Camp Bullis Military Training Reservation. “The military is one of the top reasons people move to San Antonio. It’s very active in terms of the PCS moving around,” Serrano says, referring to the military acronym that stands for “permanent change of station.”
