Cavalo encompasses a small assortment of subdivisions just east of the U.S. Highway 281 corridor, minutes away from shopping at The Village at Stone Oak Mall. Subdivisions in Cavalo include Encino Ridge, The Cliffs at Cibolo, Cavalo Creek Estates, Evans Ranch and Piñon Creek.
“Location is Encino Ridge’s main highlight,” says Martin Valera, broker/owner of Home Options Real Estate. “It’s just off Highway 281. Now that 281 is all fixed up, it makes the commute to San Antonio so much easier. Encino Ridge is also really close to shopping on the other side of TPC Parkway, and pretty much everything.” Valera explains that the price range in the Encino Ridge subdivision is lower compared to other subdivisions in the area, with homes falling in the $300,000 to $400,000 range. Houses in this subdivision are mostly brick, contemporary homes with smaller backyards.
Homes in the Piñon Creek subdivision are an assortment of one- and two-story homes with brick or clapboard siding that fall in the $300,000 to $600,000 range. This subdivision is closest to the local elementary school, located at the end of Roan Park. The Cliffs at Cibolo, Cavalo Creek Estates and Evans Ranch are gated communities, with larger houses following Tudor and Craftsman stylings priced from $450,000 to just over $1 million. Houses in Cavalo Creek Estates also have bigger yards. Cavalo Creek Estates and Evans Ranch are located on either side of the local middle school, while The Cliffs at Cibolo is just across the street from the local high school.
Students can attend Roan Forest Elementary School, Tejeda Middle School and Johnson High School. All three schools are a 10-minute drive or less from wherever you live in the area. Johnson High, graded A-plus on Niche, offers Advanced Placement, Dual Credit and Dual Enrollment classes. Students can also apply for magnet programs or schools, like the Agriscience Magnet Program and the Space and Engineering Technologies Academy (SETA).
The Village at Stone Oak is a shopping mall minutes away from the subdivisions in Cavalo. Stores you’ll find here include Target, Ross, HomeGoods, Loft and more, in addition to several big-name restaurants for dining out. Sam’s Club is just north of the shopping mall, while H-E-B plus! is on the other side of Highway 281, farther west on Evans Road. Specialty stores like Evans Groceries are also an option, or Sprouts Farmers Market. There are several local restaurants as well. San Poke serves up signature poke bowls with an assortment of fresh, vibrant toppings, which you can pair with bubble tea. You can even customize your order! Those who follow a vegan diet will feel at home at Plantology, which offers a menu of vegan and gluten-free alternatives for burgers, tacos, milkshakes and more, using fresh, often local and organic ingredients.
Booklovers can stop by Encino Library to pick out their next read. The library hosts events including book clubs, arts and crafts meetings, and fitness sessions. Movie lovers can enjoy classic and blockbuster films, along with snacks and adult beverages, at Alamo Drafthouse Cinema. Though there isn’t a local park, you’re just a short drive away from Stone Oak Park, located near Canyon Ridge Elementary School farther west on TPC Parkway. Kids can enjoy the covered playground and small rock-climbing formations. A trail goes past the playground, which you can follow north across Stone Oak Parkway for a looped hiking or biking trip. The trail also continues south across Evans Road to go past Bush Middle School; along the way, it branches off into a private neighborhood.
