A convenient community with recreation
San Antonio’s Donaldson Terrace offers residents walkable access to parks, community conveniences and everyday essentials. It’s also close to several major freeways and Methodist Hospital, one of the largest hospitals in the United States and a major area employer. “The most attractive thing about this neighborhood is the parks; there are some nice parks here. It’s also close to interstates 10 and 410, so it’s a good place to commute from,” says Ayhan Oruc, owner of Skylight Realty Group who recently sold a home in Donaldson Terrace.
Ranch-style homes with expansive yards
The neighborhood’s residential streets are filled with low-flung ranch homes, modest bungalows and small cottages, some of which have been restored and renovated. Landscaped front yards are dotted with brushy vegetation and small trees, while paved front walkways and driveways lead to front doors and carports. Lot sizes are around 7,000 to 8,000 square feet, so there’s plenty of room for backyard barbecues and gardening with local flora. “Most of the houses have bigger yards. It’s great for families and kids,” Oruc says. There are also some homes in the western side of the district that have ample acreage, including some that are situated on more than two acres. Homes prices typically range from around $150,000 to $250,000, with the median hovering around $210,000.

Relax at Lee's Creek Park
Proximity to neighborhood parks and amenities are a close to home. Lee’s Creek Park is a great place to relax under a leafy tree canopy or take a stroll along the park’s walking loop. Residents can also take advantage of Seeling Park and Shadwell Park, both of which are smaller parks that are tucked away on residential streets. The neighborhood is served by two community centers, Joe Ward Community Center and St. Paul Community Center, that offer safe places for youth to spend time with friends after school. Joe Ward Community Center also has a splash pad where locals can beat the heat during the sizzling summer months.

Residents will find shopping and groceries on Bandera Road, which runs along the southern edge of Donaldson Terrace. For everyday essentials, locals fill up their carts at Walmart and Walgreens. Plenty of restaurants can also be found nearby, like Las Islas Marias, a local favorite for Mexican-style seafood and drinks, and Bandera Jalisca, a local spot that serves up hearty plates of traditional Mexican cuisine. Locals also love Henry’s Puffy Tacos Express, an eatery that’s known for its crunchy, “puffy taco,” a San Antonio take on a classic taco. Within a 5-mile radius, there’s also an H-E-B grocery store, a Target and Santikos Entertainment Northwest, an upscale movie theater.
