New construction in Southton

Just south of downtown San Antonio on Interstate 37, the rural community of Southton is in the middle of two worlds. Five miles north leads to the city, with access to shopping, events and prominent historical parks. On the other end, 5 miles south leads to Elmendorf, a small country town with a population of less than 2,500. While generational homesteads offer expansive acreage, the area grows with new construction, bringing community amenities close to home. Despite these changes, this Southside San Antonio maintains its deep-rooted sense of community. "It's very family oriented. You know, a place where everyone knows everybody," says Eloy Gomez, a longtime Southside resident whose parents own 4 Mission Cafe, a nod to San Antonio's history.

Although yard space is minimal, residents can walk to the neighborhood pool and playground. Henze Road offers a rustic setting, dotted with farmhouses with long, dirt driveways. Residents here enjoy expansive lots, some even with views of grazing cattle. Prices range from $170,000 for 1,000 square feet to over $350,000 for over 3,000 square feet.
