Hanes Park is a business district with historic homes
Hanes Park is a well-established suburban neighborhood close to the vibrant heart of downtown San Bernardino. The city has a storied history in citriculture and manufacturing, growing into a tentpole city for the region now known as the Inland Empire. The area around Hanes Park is mainly comprised of businesses. Still, the community’s historic homes sit just minutes away from excellent schools and connecting freeways.
Early 20th-century homes near downtown amenities
Here you’ll find an established urban community of traditional suburban tracts and city blocks lined with tall palm trees. Most of the single and multi-family houses that make up the community’s residential landscape were built in the 20s and 30s and are only a few minutes’ drive from local schools and connecting freeways. Home architecture is split between the more straightforward and spacious ranch-style homes and the eclectic geometry of Craftsman houses. The latter home style was pioneered in SoCal during the 20s and 30s, featuring exteriors with clean shapes and covered front porches along with unpretentious yet cozy interiors. Homes in the neighborhood often feature well-maintained fenced yards, paved driveways and expansive floor plans, with sidewalk access providing easy routes to schools and local bus stops. Progressive Properties Realtor Jeff Teel says, “The area is very affordable and well-established, plus you’re close to great schools and minutes from the freeways.” Homes in Hanes Park average around $390,000, more affordable than the average San Bernardino home price of $500,000.
A high graduation rate for San Bernardino schools
Public school students are served by the San Bernardino City Unified School District, attending primary schools like Captain Leland Norton Elementary School from kindergarten to sixth grade. Students move on to intermediate and secondary institutions like Arrowview Middle and Indian Springs High School. The latter high school has a student-to-teacher ratio of 28:1 and a 92% graduation rate, according to GreatSchools.
Community gathering spaces and vast outdoor recreation preserves
Excellent established and brand-new area parks provide residents with the perfect opportunity to get active. The Bryce E. Hanes Park and Jon Cole Skate Park was built in 2017, named in honor of two local San Bernardino heroes, and home to excellent playsets, a splash pad, basketball and fitness courts and an expansive skate park. Just down Sierra Way is the Seccombe Lake Recreation Area, ringed by a half-mile walking trail where you can catch great views of the lake or relax in the shaded picnic areas. Take the freeway north and visit the San Bernardino Mountains and National Forest, with miles of hiking, mountain biking, and equestrian trails and campgrounds perfect for enjoying the outdoors.
Big-box stores, chain restaurants and local flavors
Hanes Park is also just minutes away from quality grocery shopping options. Local markets like Midway Market offer a bevy of home goods and convenience products. Regional grocers like Stater Bros. Markets will keep your kitchen stocked with fresh produce, ingredients, nonperishables and other household essentials. There are also plenty of local and chain restaurant options for enjoying a nice meal. Chapala Express is a local restaurant offering a range of classic Mexican dishes in a casual counter-serve setting.
GreatSchools:
The GreatSchools Rating helps parents compare schools within a state based on a variety of school quality indicators and provides a helpful picture of how effectively each school serves all of its students. Ratings are on a scale of 1 (below average) to 10 (above average) and can include test scores, college readiness, academic progress, advanced courses, equity, discipline and attendance data. We also advise parents to visit schools, consider other information on school performance and programs, and consider family needs as part of the school selection process.
