Convenience north of downtown San Bernardino
The green knolls of Perris Hill Park rise along the northern edge of Pacific, one of San Bernardino’s many residential neighborhoods. The community sits just east of downtown with several schools, ample amenities and the San Bernardino Elks Lodge. “People like the convenience. There are a lot of things nearby — grocery stores, plenty of variety,” says Serena Salazar, property manager at Pine Garden Apartments. San Bernardino (SBD) International Airport is also nearby, but not so close that residents worry about air traffic noise. “We’re not too close. The noise doesn’t bother me at all,” says Salazar, who lives in Pacific.

Bungalows with mountain views
Pacific’s residential streets are dotted with single-story bungalows dating from the 1940s and ’50s, on lots measuring roughly a quarter acre. These smaller homes cost about $450,000 on average, but larger houses on the hillside cost more, especially if they’re on a sizable lot. The San Bernardino Mountains peek over the horizon, making this feel more like a rural community than a neighborhood within a few miles of downtown. Most properties include driveways, but many people still park along the street. Since there aren’t many sidewalks here, navigating the roads on foot can be challenging.

San Bernardino’s safety score
The Inland Empire has seen a recent uptick in violent crime. Local officials believe this is primarily due to housing insecurity, coupled with a lack of mental health resources. Pacific is not immune to the trend — CAP Index gives the neighborhood a crime score higher than the national average — so potential buyers may want to keep it in mind when shopping for homes in the area. From the lodge on Perris Hill, the local Elks chapter plays an active role in the community, hosting events like food drives and Christmas events for displaced youth.
