Jamaica Bay Village, a gated 55-plus community in southern Fort Myers, attracts buyers with its amenities and active vibe. Despite its size – 14,000 homes spread out on 230 acres – it’s close-knit, with several resident-led social groups. “You know all your neighbors. There’s a veteran club, an entertainment club and community ambassadors. We have tons of amenities, and the activities are endless. It’s really five-star resort-style living,” says resident Julie Havelka, a Realtor with Mobile Home Lady.

Jamaica Bay Village amenities include clubhouses, lakes and more
The community has swimming pools, three fishable lakes and a putting green. It also has a fitness center and courts for tennis, pickleball and shuffleboard. Three clubhouses host events like weekly worship services, card games and seasonal celebrations. “We do derby parties and Christmas parties and Halloween parties, all resident-led. We do golf cart parades for Memorial Day, Labor Day and Christmas, too. For Christmas, you would not believe what people come up with for the golf carts. They make them look like sleighs and trains, they’re so creative, it’s like seniors on steroids,” Havelka says. The Forest Country Club’s walkable golf courses are less than 3 miles away. Other Estero/Naples area courses, like Tiburon Golf Club and Old Corkscrew Golf Club, are within 30 miles of the neighborhood.

Big box retailers and local restaurants are a golf cart ride away
Commercial corridors nearby feature shopping options like Walmart Supercenter, Aldi, Home Depot and Lowe’s, scattered between car dealerships and restaurants. “You can get to all that on your golf cart on the back roads,” Havelka says. Nonchalance is an American eatery with punny menu items like Send Gnudies, a gnocchi dish, and Pork Some Sugar on Me, a pulled-pork flatbread. Havelka says Milhous Pub, in the same strip mall, is also popular spot. “A lot of locals like to park their cart across the street at the bank and walk to the pub for bingo nights.”

Almost all residents own rather than rent, and live here year-round rather than only in the winter. The community is prone to flooding, and the risk of wind damage during hurricane season is high.
