Alta Vista is a quiet residential suburb set about 8 miles outside Downtown San Diego, offering modest midcentury homes at comparatively low San Diego prices. "It's been here since the 1950s, so it's great that a new generation of people are moving in and keeping the neighborhood alive." Situated 5 miles from the Naval Base San Diego, military personnel and their families call Alta Vista home. While residents won't find anything but houses here, they're only about 2 miles from National City (home to the sprawling Westfield Plaza Bonita mall) and roughly 9 miles from Coronado Beach - not central to the action, but rather a short drive from it. Nearby parks include El Toyon, the Martin Luther King Jr. Park and the Paradise Hills Park, all within a 3-mile radius.
